Dominance War III entry finished - revisited

    >>>
Ok guys, I need some feedback,
on this thumbnails for the dominance war, please,
i´m trying to decide on a silhouette
that conveys a strong magical artifact/weapon wielder character

and the one that looks good what class
would it convey, Warrior, mage, cleric or ninja?

i will copy paste this post onto my exclusive sketchbook thread also

3D or 6C for Warrior. 1E for mage, Though that was hard to decide. Most of the items seem to bulky to really give you a "mage" feel.

    the character has to convey
    a strong magical artifact/weapon wielder
no electronic technology at all just magical

and the one that you guys think is best what class
would it convey, Warrior, mage, cleric or ninja?

i will copy paste this post on on my exclusive sketchbook again

A6 seems interesting to me as well as its position.
I am curious to see as to what exactly is going on at its head region. And that one definitely appears to be more of a rogue type fighter.
Truthfully, I like them all. They all have character.
    GJ!

C6 is awezome in my opinion, its unice and stand out from the rest, D2 and A6 are great too but you kinda get the feeling youve seen it before, i really like A4 though.

great job with those anyway, theyr all great

Wow, I love them all, but C6 is my favorite. Is there some tutorial on making those kind of thumbnail things?

Just found this, b2 caught my eye, would make a good ninja. He could be using a bow that shoots mystical energy arrows. His ninja mystique would also help sell the idea. if you dont paint it up, mind if i steal the concept (not the art work) lol ;-)

I can see D2 as a mage, A6 as a ninja, and B5 as a warrior (it's the tusks). The bulkiness around A6's head should be lightweight if he's going to be a ninja, though.

Lazarous: thanks , mmm im not
sure yet i will think of something,
    thanks for your help

Lotet: hey thanks a bunch, i appreciatte
    your time

PinkElephant: i would reccomend checking Andrew Jones
    video on the digital downloads

RandAlThor: you got some pretty cool ideas
im sure you will come up with something neat

misosoupaddict: well thats suppose to be the
magical item so it might grant some flight abilities
    thanks for your help

petitemistress: well dont worry about the
proportions when doing the abstract thumbs
the constrains of those will push you to come
up with a creative solution when you render them

    >>>

So it was a tie between A6 and D2, B5 came in second
really close :-) , and decided
to go with the stalker character A6,

    Yeeeah!
B5 was good too, but the position could have been better. A6 seemed to have it all
    This should be interesting.

I like the way you used the grid format for your thumbnails. It makes your artwork very readable and very professional. Great idea/

    misosoupaddict:yay XD

Dardagan:maybe i will do some more in the future
for now i will finish A6

SugaCrcl: yeah is easy to compare them all together
the grid is a good way of scale and shape comparison

ok so i made 6 color choices
    this character is a insect/plant/human

the magical artifact is the head helmet garment
that gives him/her vegetation magic powers for
    stealth, information gathering and assasination.

so i went with earth colors, which one
    looks better ??

also, should i make it a male or female?

I agree with atlantik, female #3. None of the other colour schemes really said 'magic' to me.

Go female #3, but I think something else besides purple might go down well. LOVE your tones man.

made a couple more color options
but i think the ones with the star are my favorites
and also the character will be male.

seems that the magical helmet garment thingy
is being confused as a brain,
    i can understand that so . . .
I tried to make some patterns for it
    any opinions on it? :-)

hmm that is hard decision,I like all of them except H5 it is somewhat unconvincing for me with these yeys, well male character with magical helmet - my choice flying around between H2 and H4 ( H6 looks same like H4 except a small details) but my opinion - H2 is good choice for magical brain-helmet,if this helmet should to look like brain H2 is most closer to that and it have a good relief too!
    good luck bro!

*p.s. about the characters - IMO #5 don't seems to be male character with that pinkish,#11 look good but not for magical characters, those colors don't give me influence for magical skills, I think if you use earth green with light blue may come a good mix for magician but that is only me.take care!

Color schemes: 2, 4 or even 6, i like the "earthy" tones.
My votes go for H2 and H4, where the first texture has a natural vibe (the veins on it remind me of fractal and leaves) and the second looks more "technologic" (like some sort of cerimonial protecting armor), i'd try make the lil' irregularities on it even more accentuated; otherwise it would look too much like H6 and i think that design is boring.
Seems like you have a neat and tidy way to work, even when ideas are still not very clear.

atlantik: great , we both agree on that , i got rid
of the pinkish color so i hope it looks better now

GaussianRaider: very nice observation, i agree
with making the irregularities or pattern less smooth
and more bumpy, thanks so much :-)

    So i grabbed option #11
    and made some 3/4 roughs
to get the feeling of the whole character

    might add some india accesories,
bracelets and small things here and there,
like the thingy in his right leg,
some of those might be hanging
    of the plant tentacles too.

one thing i noticed from the original thumbnail
is that both big head pieces are parallel and on this final
one they are more radiating towards the forehead, more
    aerodynamic i guess . . .

still working on the design but its getting there

    Nice costant development here.
I think that if the "elm" is too inclined (instead of being parallel to the vertical line of the body) the figure couldn't stand properly, the baricentre would be off, expecially if the whole "helm-carapace" is heavy!

Still working on the design, since the helmet magic artifact
takes over the body of the guy i thought adding
some vines coming from under his wrists would add
a better sense of sneaky strangler stalker snake look to it :-P

changed the design of the head also and made
the back leaf vines bigger . . . . so far so good???

I love it, design by community!

I'm joining a little late ... missed the voting but your character is looking superb.
The carapace is much more balanced now, and the vines from his wrists are a nice touch.

I would like to make a suggestion for his back leaf vines.
They're very long to be just a leaf stalk, turn them into vines with the leaf stalk near the end of the vine. A picture might better explain: grapevine

I was thinking about the purpose of those leaves. They couldn't really be used as a weapon but they could be how he gets his energy (photosynthesis).

Last thing: his dagger could be a long thorn.

Nice work Gabo, can't wait for your next step.

krazybov: hey thanks a bunch for the nice comment
i was thinking of using those for hanging or surrounding
and enemy, this guy suppose to be more of sneaky
assassin or be a guy who gets information, i will
try the approach you said and put more leaves on the vine
    thanks again :-)

    >>>

ok so this is a rough front view
added a more plant or leaf appearance
to the shoulders and play some small
changes here and there to the design

I think the next thing would be do a bunch of
quick ones and try to explain his artifact powers

    Hi gabo

I like it with just one leaf on the back vines (sorry, didn't mean for you to add more leaves) I meant for the leaf stalk to be growing out of the vine near the tip of the vine. Hard to describe it in words and that picture of the grapevine I linked to was a bit crap. I would do a sketch for you but, erm, I can't (surfing without a hard disk here!).

Anyway, carry on, it's looking wicked either way
