    Ah, I kinda like it!
But I got sooo no time! :/

How about changing the topic to "The haunted library" - just a suggestion.
That way it would be a little broader maybe.

library implies more organisation and formality. Im thinking the chaotic tumble withthe funny book smell, that is a used book store. We actually have a really cool one near me that is in an old library. It has wonderfull ornate stairways and glass floors on the upper levels. .

    Great topic!
Glad to see Hideyoshi's back, I feared he was serious about giving up with EoW...

Speaking as an avid reader I have to say the bookshops in those ref pics are absolutely gorgeous! Why don't any bookstores near me look like that?
I cannot wait to see what people come up with for this EOW

I promised myself not to start this, because I don't really have much time atm. I'm doing an internship and I'm going snowboarding for a week (I'm leaving friday). I also promised myself not to post WIP's anymore, but here is what I've got so far..

I agree with Hidey, bookshop, library, or building of knowledge should do.

Yeah, I see what you mean, chaos! Old antique bookstore, that's what I visualize as well.
And the image revenebo posted is really close to what I had in mind first.
    Exact same angle even!

Vulgar: hehe, I can't get over the fact that people (almost all the native english speakers) think my name is pronounced something like 'Hyde'. This is so wrong and frankly annoys the cr@p outta me (no offence, Vulgar )! +_+
Closest alternative spelling that could come close to correct pronounciation is 'Hidde'. The 'e' at the end is spoken like 'æ'. And the 'i' is nothing like 'ai'
It's a plain japanese name (after Toyotomi Hideyoshi) and not some weird english mixup.

lol, I just always wanted to get this straight.

I don't even know what I might do here. I love me some old books and being the child of a university prof I've spent plenty of time in the stacks, yet an image has yet to strike me.

ps. Umm, chaosrocks, it's 'Lucky Munky', not 'Lucky Munkey' ... not that it really matters I suppose.

Hi guys, this is my first post in the EOW threads! I'm primarily a character artist, and really want to expand my boundries into environments too, so this would be the perfect place to start, methinks. I was very much inspired by the refs posted above, and this is what I have so far, with a little help from SketchUp to get my basic perspective right. I figure a bookstore where they have fire sconces but none of the books are burning has to be bad news! This is still pretty rough, but any tips or crits would be warmly welcomed.

Hey guys, glad I could join you this round, I've been doodling since Pirate's Cove topic, but haven't got time to do something. Here's my take, I'm not happy with some tiles perspective, and I've been redoing the back room a few times:

    EOW #80 The Haunted Bookshop

the story is about an unfortunate bookshop customer, who opened the wrong book and got dragged by the lady into the mist
