Hey everyone. I havent been on for a while and wanted to start adding some daily sketches again now that my schedule is a little less hectic. Any thoughts and crits are welcome, most of these are only just quick concepts i did cause i felt like painting though. Until I actually get good, i consider most of these studies and practice pieces. I have also included some steps in case anyone wants to see.
Any crits and comments are most welcome and appreciated.
Great start indeed I really dig the 2nd image of the critter, the colors are great. The first one could use some more definition and work on the arms I think, especially the upper arm and joint seem a bit rushed.
I totally agree with you Yoit. And thank you for the critique. Yeah, I basically was only doing the first one just cause I felt like painting something, and usually when i do that, design and sense go out the window lol. I'm just like..."yeah...light swords are cool...clunk clunk. Hey, how about some fucking aliens on the ground....that kind of works." I like it better when i have a story for a character and an actual feeling to go on, rather than when I just feel like moving paint around. Thanks again for the crit Yoitsi.
i been lookin at your website for the past 2 hours.... you. are. unbelievable. I love your style, your painting palettes, everything! Your work is so inspiring, keep at it!
Thank you very much for the compliments everyone! I really appreciate all the kind words.
To answer some of your questions yeah, I did a couple things for Imagine FX Magazine. And currently I am working on magic cards for Wizards of the Coast. Which I cant show for like another 8 months till they are released...so im kind of bummed about that.
Right now im pretty much focusing on trying to get trained though. I am self taught and that can be incredibly frustrating some times. Its great I guess for developing your own style, but I really would like to attend a school with a group of artists where we can learn and grow together and pump out bad ass shit all day.
Anyhoot, thanks for the crits and I will have more up shortly.
lol, yeah man, i just moved actually. I live in orlando now. But I will be coming back down later in the week so a close friend of mine Karla Ortiz, can film herself kicking me in the nuts as hard as she can. I cant say anymore on the subject...but trust me, its for a good cause.
And thanks for the compliments on the silouttes. That was actually for an art director I met this weekend at Gearbox Studios. She told me thats the way she likes to work, have like a sheet of 30 sills and then pick the one she likes and the artist cranks on it. So after I flew back I did that exercise to see if thats what she was talking about. Hopefully she likes it.
Anyhoot, heres a sketch i started today. I might take this to an concept illustration, but I dont know. Any crits are most welcome and appreciated.
Orlando huh? I've too many long time no see buds up there. Nothing better then a kick in the nuts on film, make sure you put that on youtube or something hehe. As for this last one;
Go all the way man. I digg it way to much for you to just let it sit around collecting pixel dust! One thing i'd like to mention though, is to keep exploring the characters form. I think you can come up with something a little more dynamic, expressions rule. Btw, I had a question about your rendering technique if you don't mind. Do you usually start off with a gray scale before you slap on colours?
