    A real beginnerís sketchbook

Hi everyone, this is my first post on here and this is also my first real sketchbook. I aim to update this at least every three days, but I’m pretty passionate so it could be more often. I have some self portraits as well to post but I’m not brave enough to post those yet.

So here’s the first art dump, there’s more to come later on.

PS: I just noticed the perspective is wrong on the cups handle... Ah well.

Welcome! Post those damn self portraits man! I agree with what Rhett has said. You have the objects too close to you. You will see improvement. Don't be shy to post things that you think are hideous or not worthy. If you want help then you will have to post everything. We have to see your full range of skill. Do some anatomy studies and more of those still life studies. Keep posting!

Thank you both for taking the time to comment. I totally agree with both of you about sitting too close to the objects I'm drawing. I often move aswell which is something I know I will need to stop doing. Oh and I also took your advice Rhett on practicing ellipses, I'm not going to post those though because it's just a load of... well ellipses.

So anyway here are some more studies, and yes the portraits are amongst them, but I have to warn you, they're extremely bad.

Not much from me today but it's still early so there could be more. I thought I'd have a go at rendering today. It didn't turn out all that great I know. I took the advice about moving further back and I agree, it looks much nicer than before.

PS: And no I do not have an obsession drawing pliers, they just seemed to be a good thing to try to draw because they're not overly complicated but they're not easy either.

Pliers! Good idea, I may look in the toolchest for interesting objects to draw.

Keep up those self-portraits. For rendering practice, try spheres. They're really good for understanding how light/shadow create form. You can apply this to your pliers and self portraits.
