    ADDITIONAL INFO

    1. Creature must attack from an ambush

    2. Creature must snap, so focus on a jaw as the attack "tool"

    3. Creature must be big enough to snap the body of its prey, whatever it is

    4. No individual/character!!! Make a concept of a species!

this topic title made me immediately think of a crocodile and how it leaps out of the water and grabs its prey, drags it away then snaps its neck to kill it.

i can already imagine some really cool concepts being born from this round.

I need to draw more with pencil, so here is a WIP
Its not really with the Jaw, but he snaps the victim in two when he swallows it, kinda like how a snake sometimes eats a big pray

    this okey or not foz?

    Heres a really quick WIP.
First thing that came to my head was a cave dwelling creature, it lures prey in with a light on the end of a tendril. It then shoots out and snaps up the prey. The head looks surprisingly like joey-b's but that a coincedence.

Here's my WIP, this creature is hiding behind his jaws, maybe the body should be more hidden between them. Laying an ambush by spreading the smell of a dead animal.

    C.O.W. - #109: Ambush Bodysnapper

I think mine is ready. I've chosen for the body hiding behind the jaws (more easy to).

This is a wonderful topic. May try an aerial ambush. Would be fun to think about something buzzard like using a forest canopy for cover on unsuspecting campers or something. Who knows.

start with the jaw shape. or the mechanism in which it catches its prey. best thing to do with artists block is to draw shit, and once you've got the shit out of your head, you can work from there. The best remedy to it is to just start drawing something. Then you can be like, 'hey that's not half bad' or, 'yeah that's definitely not what I want,' and your brain can start problem solving.

JUST DU IT. I hope to get this one done as well. Trying to get as many weekly activities done as possible!

Joey-b - Very good drawing, just make sure to define it more as a creature and less as a plant.
Tommoy - Maybe a side image with the creature's mouth open? I'm just curious as to what's inside haha
willobeen - All I really see is a blob to be honest, I'd like to see more definition in the creature's anatomy maybe...imHo. Also...how does it snap? Hmm...
Lalilulelo - Excellent advice! Thank you.
EdenGotterrCyan - Awesome Sketch! Can't wait to see where you go with it.

My sketch to just basically get out of my block. I deffinitely want to work on a more action oriented piece. But anyway, these creatures use the cover of darkness on the ocean floor to hide, then when a whale passes above them they reach out and snap it in two! ~

Ooooh, this is a fun topic. Now if I just could come up with a decent concept. I like what people have come up with so far. I sure wouldn't want to get in the way of Tommoy's critter, that is one scary beast, nice one!

Something quick I did at lunch. It's a giant snail, with a crab like claw for a back/shell. It sits for weeks in one spot attempting to look like a submerged tree branch. When an animal (often large aquatic reptiles) climb onto the the "branch" to bask, the upper claw snaps shuts, often snipping the poor beast in two!

Should I decide to develop this first idea, I'll make the action a lot more clear in the illustration obviously.

    Red face My first C.O.W

    Ok here goes.

    This is "Pescas Occulus Scarabeum"

This species developed on Orion 1 , where (as we are all aware) the proximity of the dual sun system has created some reactions within the indiginous lifeforms. This planet is so close to the suns that even the deep-sea have had to adapt to the ever brightening atmosphere. Because of their exposure to an abundance of solar radiation their species has over-compensated with a mutation which means they no longrer require the dark sea-floor.
This species has now migrated close to ALL landmasses (yes that means the beaches) wher they hunt in the exact same way as before, burying their 12ft long bodies in the sand, with just their very capable eyes protruding. There they lie patiently waiting for something to swim by.

I`ll just about have time to post this before Sunday. Busy, busy....
Any last minute help before I post this?
    Thanks and good luck.

So I did what you shouldn't do and just dived right in without any thumbnails, so the concept never got developed beyond "weasel with a funny nose". Oh well. Should have looked at Nexus' post sooner.

Still a very heavy WIP--haven't even touched most of the BG yet.

Basically, he hangs around in a cave network and leaps out and snaps anything unwary enough to wander by. Said funny nose helps him detect air currents of passing critters (I'll probably develop it further).

I'm still quite new to painting, especially with color, so any crits would be more than welcome. Also the first time I've tried fur, which has been actually pretty fun so far.

Oh, and that beak thing is pretty damn cool JakkaS.

jakkas: oh my goodness, your stuff is always so fun to look at, i think your colour-choices are what adds to half the fun. so unique.
the dweller: nice concept, i can definitely see that snapping something in half. can't wait to see it a big bigger
nexus: this round was really hard to think of a design and i'm annoyed i read your post after i finished my design, i'll have to try that next round. bottom-centre is my favourite .
tommoy: very very cool concept, i can really imagine the power that those jaws would have.

    here's my WIP:
i have an odd way of progressing through my stuff..
starting next round im going to try some more action-oriented poses as opposed to the side-on, just to give it a bit more life.
and i've already changed that bulb above his arm to make it look more like a shoulder.
