    Help with joints!

    Hello there!

Sorry , first time in the forum , so not sure how it works but i will get there! Is a bit of a long shot but i saw in one of the forums a tutorial from Hot toys i think with a lad sculpting the Alien-predator. I can see there him using some plastic joints. I was wondering if anyone knows where to buy something similar or i have to make them myself.

Thnaks very much in advance , and sorry again if this is not the place for questions etc... i will learn about it i promise!

Hello there ! nice to meet you too. thanks for the reply !

I do not know if you have seen that tutorial ,but basically the guy is sculpting the alien , and i think is casting the different parts in plastic or resine or some like that. So basically what the guy does is sculpt the different part and then use this plastic joints to buid the toy, or the prototipe of it. I don't remember what kind of joints are though. I think they are the standard ones you can find in any action figure , (the small ones ,not 12").
With so many people here in thought that maybe someone knows if there is possible to buy like bags of generic joints ready to use , Becasue making moulds for them seems to me like a long way around!
I live in the UK (cambridge ) but i don't mind buying over the net , localy or have them delivered via donkey from the other side of the world

hope this clarify a bit . I can not find the tutorial again to send the link sorry! i think it was pure chance the first time ;(

I donŽt know anything about joints, but hereŽs the link to the predalien http://hk.myblog.yahoo.com/joseph-figure/index?l=f&id=6

And also, if you follow this thread i believe youŽll find some links to places that sell stop-motion armatures... http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=90581

When I was searching for a cheap stop-motion actor I ran across Stikfas that fit the bill perfectly.
Stikfas are about 3" tall and inexpensive enough to be harvested for joints or modified to serve as a skeleton.
Being plastic, they wouldn't hold up to baking very well, though one of the fans on their forum has had good luck using sculpey and boiling the figure.

I've made my own joints. If you have access to mold making and casting materials, you could do what I did.
