Smile My Apple (first ever digi art with a new tab)

This is my apple below is the original reference pic. I have not really studied how to blend yet and just used the basic brush presets available in ps. I know i didnt get the shape right because it was just a quick sketch and when i painted it i kind of made it rounder than it should have been. Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks. Soz if the pic doesn't come out righ (sorry for the size of the original reference); i have been veiwing the work on this forum as a guest for a year and all of the artists' works have inspired me to take this on as a hobby. As a high school student in england i have a lot of time on my hands and see art as a great outlet for my creativity and a great tool for exhausting stress. Its a great discipline.

    Thanks

Nice start. I'd go to the Tutorials section of the forums next, if I were you, and mess about with some of the stuff there. Here's a quick link: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=42

not too shabby of a start.
once you get the idea of brush hardness down your edges will become a lot stronger and more crisply defined.

here's a thread that may get your excited about painting apples if you havent seen it already:
