    Danny's DAILY!| 27/08/2008 | Its a bietsj on the Bietsj!

    Hello CA.org,

I have been a long time lurker on these boards my former alias was Jamaludin, I haven't posted very much and my plan was to change that. This is my opening post for my hopefully semi daily sketch book to have fun and improve my skills hopefully haha.

Crits and advice are more then welcome dont being to hard or to critical just be honest the best you can, and thanks for browsing! I know its not much but this comes al the way from my toes, and its a big improvement for me that it is!

One quick sketch of my baby brother gone horribly wrong, but still gonna post it here as accounting to that I haven't been lazy. Sorry little brother youre way more good looking and much cuter then this picture depicts haha!

Lets just hope he wont have a life long grudge towards me because of this!

Oke I really tried but dailys not gonna cut it (yet), so im gonna do what I can. These are little doodles from a few days back, and fiddled some more with the above pictures, and their original form the black and white does look a lot better in my opinion.

    Danny's DAILY!| 27/08/2008 | Its a bietsj on the Bietsj!

Plus a little environmental piece I tried to do, this is my first go at that, but it looks like a kiddie painting, so im off to the next one!

Here's a drawing I did today, nothing special but it does look better on paper then scanned in, I lose allot of gradients and lines this way. Anyone any tips on fixing your scanned in drawings so they look more like their real life counterparts?

Man correct anatomy is a *$@($#!

Before im off to bed, a quick picture taken from a fast sketch. Gotta find a way to get my pictures across better, because this aint workin

    Good night!

Did another portret from ref today, its not bad, its just alright,
but it doesnt pop out. Gotta do better with my values, and it looks sloppy,
but I learned ALOT, and hey I guess thats what counts ?

    Hope you like it!

Hey man, good to see your progressing allot!

Few problems I'm seeing in your work at the moment, that when put more thought into, could help your rendering allot!

    1) Depth: All your paintings look flat, I see hardly any light direction and thus no full range of shadows you'd normally have
when you paint something that you want to render realistically. There is color, but lack of value/shading to help sell the
    dimensions to the viewer.

    2) Accuracy: Try to take more notice to the shapes of the face, brushing up on your facial anatomy helps to put thought to
stroke. I see for example on your girlfriends portrait, that you added a rim highlight to the edge of her nose, this makes her
    nose appear very round.

    3) Colors: everything at the moment looks dull and Grey. All the colors look like they have the same value, intensity and saturation.

If you could at least try and keep these things in mind then I'd think your another few steps closer to a more convincing rendering.

    Good luck man!

Looking good danny, your form is starting to read better and you strokes are looking more confident, tho i feel it would be better for you to try some different faces rather than the same one, work on it, learn from it and move on ;-)

Thanks alot Randalthor, Im glad you feel that way. Yeah you are totally right, Ive noticed when you work to long or hard on something or the same thing, you start to lose focus. So I have learned and wil move on now and use what I have learned in the next one, this way I can post more as wel lol ! Thanks !

One anatomy exercice, but a bit of a dumb one, the picture had way to little contrast and was way to dark so, on to the next one!

Well here is another foto study I hope everyone is not getting bored of them ha! I really like this one, not because its great or anything because its ok, but because I learned so much, and really feel like I made big progress. I hope that yall agree, and you like it as well ?! Im sorry I couldnt finish it because it took me some time and just got burned out on the image, on to the next excercise!

hey man, thanks for checking my sb. nice sketchbook you got here. a lot of faces! i also see improvement! a tip to improve when it comes to faces is to focus on the position of the features of the face, instead of drawing the actual nose/eyes/mouth. thinking in 3d grid comes in super important. in post 11 you nailed the positioning most excellent.

    keep it up!

@ Joey-b: Thanks alot, that means a lot hearing that, ill do my best thanks for visiting!

@ Teh Gosu: Hey wowa, no problem thanks for redoing the favor! And I thank you for the advice, I need a lot of that.
And I can almost entirely understand what you mean but not quite (english is not my main language).
But I do understand a bit I started seeing it like that with post 11 and 13, so I hope I can improve more using the advice you're giving! thanks !

Here is another one, I studied a famous painting but my attempt is an horrible insult to the painter so I hope no one is offended!
I couldnt make myself to finish it anymore those things are WAY WAY WAY out of my league ofcourse, lightyears!
But I did learn alot, I constructed this one in a really different manner and it worked nicely to some point!

I really need to finish pieces, and really need to do something else.
Using the same process is starting to feel lame, and it feels
like Im getting nowhere, as you can see by my work.

Nice ones. You need to do smooth out the colors and get rid of the lines. What we see is composed of variations of light and color, not lines. Also, I've found out that picking colors from a reference is very helpful to understand how colors "work" in the real world. Keep drawing!

Yay, improvement! Skin color has this trick to render where it changes color on shadows and highlight. I usually make it redder on shadows. Linda Bergkvist has a nice tutorial on skin tones: http://www.furiae.com/popup.php?text=skintutorial
    Keep 'em coming.

Almost and yet not at all. I feel I have made some improvement, in my usage of color and such. And I tried painter for the first time and it is so lovely, im in love with it already. It does feel like cheating, when youre using that Sargent Brush and every stroke makes it look like more of a real painting.

    Danny's DAILY!| 27/08/2008 | Its a bietsj on the Bietsj!

Again not finished, I lose interest way to soon, dont exactly know why.
I think its because I want to make masterpieces and be great and all,
and I am seeing that I not even halfway there yet, which makes me angry.

Well hope you still like it anywas! Thanks for looking!

Thanks for checking out my sketchbook, you have some nice work going here, looks like you're making some good strides. One thing I noticed that you may want to mess around with a bit and explore options is how hard/soft edges or shapes in your painting are. Right now everything is being treated fairly equally, which can be distracting and overly harsh looking. Keep it up.

    Hey Danny,

Painter is amazing. I wouldn't call it cheating, but revolutionary. It's the closest thing to real medias without getting your hands dirty.
