hey if anyone needs good references for poses
--only girl poses sorry
you should check out the America's Next Top Model website and look at the model portfolio, some good stuff pose wise (and if you want to add clothes...they have some cool looking outfits haha)
edit: oh and try this site too :] http://www.3d.sk/
(i saw someone asked in the other thread )
might jump in and do this after 30. haha
what exactly do you mean by uncomfortable hand positions though? just like someone's hand twisted under oddly or something along those lines right?
and sorry don't know why the avatar isn't working :| and i don't have my photoshop at the moment...

MeTaL-Mike; Forgot yourself in the hall of fame. Yea it seems the icon is not loading, not quite sure why. There's a topic on that around here somewhere ;| Looking pretty good, by the way. You whipped that out quickly. Was thinking about a helmet too, easily recognizable. I can imagine it being hard to read with the text over the helmet, as the icon will probably appear a bit smaller tho.
ArtFish; Mm, good find. Couple of those next top model photos are kind of over the top though, with all the effects. But good ones among them too. 2nd seems resourceful if you're willing to pay for it
Here's another good one (will load a .pdf)

ya i know, the top models are like...a bit much but if you search a bit you can find some really good ones
heres more places to find them
(nude btw, the mature content is on i think all of them so u might need an account to view...but, i think a lot of us have one?)
awesome ref find by you though Anthis

OK ppl. it works now. i think the problem was that my file had the extention .JPG ! i re-saved it as .jpg and now it's ok
also the first one i made was not very clear so i had to adjust some stuff.
Anthis - i just did a quick google search for "Spartan" in the images section and voila!!! then some quick ps work and there we go. If you guys have some idea's please share then and we can all decide which icon to use.
PS. awesome ref's all. nice stuff.

omg, i didnt even realise deviant had stock photos, i wish i had found these a week ago,
Does anyone know of any other good stock image sites, that has plenty of images of the same person, only at different angles, preferably good face shots, not nudes or supermodels though.

infact many are worth taking a look at, a good chunk of them, if not most, are not nude and a good amount should have good face shots

ArtFish - no worries. just post what you've got and do your best to have them finished next time. we're here every week
best thing you can do is spread this stuff over the week. do like 10 a day. don't spend too much time on them. the idea is to do gestures not complete figure drawings. we're doing this to train our eyes to see proportions and put it on paper as fast as possible. the ones that are usually being posted here are actually way too detailed.
check out the website below. this is very cool and usefull technique for drawing. Teaching you to find rhythm, and Force in a pose. If you have the bucks, buy this book. this guy also has loads of video lessons explaining a lot of stuff. maybe with a little torrent search....
Look at me writing a book here
back to drawing before i go to get wasted. it's carnaval in Holland now so, it's beer time
February 2nd, 2008 #14
ya mine usually end up to detailed -.-' i think i kept them good and undetailed this time though
its not the time really is why i only have like 8, just a. procrastinate a lot haha and b. school stuff >[
ooo good website...

great gestures both of you
and nice optional Anthis
is there any reason either of you seem to stray from doing animal gestures?

Ya Mike i learned to draw a lot of animals first actually so they aren't as much of a problem for me xD although humans...sometimes i can just get them and sometimes im like -utter fail- haha
i finally got my new computer so hopefully ill be able to post what i did get done a bit later
Shardana: well you really didn't have to go into detail shading them as they are just gestures xD but aside from that- it seems the ones where you tried foreshortening are your weakest, which is usually the case, otherwise it seems your anatomy could use a little tweaking in general but otherwise a pretty good start
try some more sitting poses too

Anthis - great stuff man. love the optional, very good.
shardana - good work and effort but do try to keep it simple.
ArtFish - good work. try to use less lines and begin the drawing light, don't commit to a shape unless your totally sure it's good and the proportions are ok.
nice to see the animals. i think i will try some as well.
Sorry i didn't do the optional this week and that it wasn't a better topic. Am still very busy at the moment, hope this will end soon :d. see yah on the next one.
February 5th, 2008 #23
thanks mike :]
ya ive heard that a lot haha, bad habit of mine i guess xD shall work on that for the next one :]
February 6th, 2008 #24
thanks guys, good work artfish, as mike said an improvement would be to clean up the lines a bit.
i keep doing my little shadings i'm getting faster now, but yeah i know it would be better keeping it simple for the pose sake but i also wanted to understand where the main muscles are in a body..anyway, hopefully i'll be able to post a few more before later on..
February 6th, 2008 #25
shardana - no problem. maybe a good idea to do it like this. Do the 50 gestures first without shading. then when you still have time try to shade them all. the would be a challenge!
You guys do what you feel is best for you. I'm totally glad the you've all joined me an Anthis here.
See yah on the next one.

Couple of crits, hope you don't mind. Good to see some more participants after a few lesser populated weeks.
MeTaL-Mike; Nice, clothed ones again. I notice some variation in body shapes also, like the short girl, little kid, and a bit of variation in general. Gives some of them a nice character, combined with the clothing and pose. Watch it that the long legs don't return, although it only seems to happen in the later, athletic few. Nice idea for the optional btw, out of the ordinary Icon looks nice this way ^^
shardana; Nice job on those, going digital and doing quite some shading. Mind that you don't have to post top-notch studies here, stickmen are totally fine . It's for learning either way. Going white on black seems like a hassle to me, but perhaps it works fine for you. Just make sure you don't loose track of the anatomy while going in those details. Nice to see you're not shy of trying difficult poses. Hope to see you more often!
ArtFish; Heh, good job on joining in. Nice variation going on. You don't have to make it too hard for yourself though, some of the drawings in scan 2 lost their shape. I like the spearwoman and the girl whose back you can see most, both 1st scan. They combine good anatomy with an interesting pose thats still readable. I've heard quite a lot that line quality will most likely come by itself as you draw, btw. Promising stuff, see you next time ;P

CamSyko - hey man, loking good there. you should post in the new thread though. every week we start a new Spartan Camp thread and do 50 gestures and 1 optional study of something. if you have any more of these or are planning to do more this week please post them in the new thread.
you can find it in the Commuity activities forum.
