    Concept: Comet Rider

The Comet Rider is a small parasite that uses it's flat, tight body to hug the surfaces of comets to combat the vacuum of space. It slowly scuttles across the rock to keep contact with the nearest star, absorbing rays through it's webbing and collecting stray particles of matter (as well as some elements of radiation) with the hairs on two long appendages extending from the back. Periodically, small spores are released from two porous bulbs connected to these appendages, which spread and eventually seed other satellites.

    Concept Comet rider
The comet rider is a creature that lives in space and feeds of comets floating around in space. Comets are it's favorite habitat because they attract many different materials that the comet rider can feed on.

If a cometrider wants to feed itself it pins his both paws in the comet and starts eating the many materials while using an acid to make the harder parts become eatable.

    Concept: Juni Blonde
This species can be found adrift, planet side, or on various celestial debris. Its prefers the surfaces of comets. With its gaping mouth, the blonde Juni uses small suction pads to hold onto comets until its mouth fills with particles and various mineral detritus. The pads release small amounts of water, freezing it to the surface. Often times when near the sun, the juni will lose traction, finding itself adrift once again.

    Artist: Apocalypse_Rex

    Concept: Phase-louse

The phase louse is so called because it phases in and out of dimensions until it happens upon a suitable habitat, usually a comet, although sometimes meteors can provide adequate nutrition. This process can take a while, and once a suitable comet is found it will be years before the creature moves on to enable it to reproduce successfully and securely.

When near the comet surface, the barbed squishy muzzle burrows into a nice crevice on the surface, and the creature is anchored. Dangling feeding fronds dangle from appendages and their frilled edges glean nutrition from the various minerals and ions in the tails of the comet and matter which vaporises from its surface as it travels. They tend to stay attached for a long while, and release their offspring in the comet's travel path to grow and phase off on their own.

When they die, they break apart into the trail of the comet they have called home.

    Concept: Gevum

The gevum are an interplanetary pest which have made a number of different planets their home. This species is known to produce an extremely high amount of offspring every three to four months; a female gevum may lay upwards of a thousand eggs per year. Roughly the size of a human hand, these creatures are constantly dispersing themselves throughout galaxies.

The original home of the gevum is unfortunately a planet which is consistently experiencing high levels of comet impacts as well as large chunks of land breaking off and being hurled into outer space. Because of this, large amounts of gevum have been sent to other planets within the galaxy but for every one comet which succeeds in transporting a cluster of gevum to a new planet with a survivable atmosphere, two land on uninhabitable planets and five never make it to another planet or are unable to reach a suitable planet within the lifespan of the interplanetary immigrants.

The reason the gevum are able to survive these long journeys is because they feed off the billions of micro parasites found on the comets they ride. The gevum have an adaptation which allows them to survive the impact of the comet which is both an anatomical and behavioural one; the gevum huddle together into clusters and their tough shells bind together to form a single, large protective layer, similar to the phalanx formation.

    Artist: Rosesred

    Concept: Comet rider

Like it's more beautiful cousin, the solar sailer, the comet rider spends most of it's adult life in outer space. Evolution changed the tail, the legs and it's eye-stalks into very efficient drilling or clamping limbs. These allow the comet rider to hold on even in heavy gravity shocks.

The comet rider is depicted here with a fully erect spinal sail, and an inflated primary funnel sail. The secondary funnel sail is completely deflated, probably to protect it from the fierce solar winds in this region.

The sails are not only used for propulsion, they're also the primary source of food for the rider. A complicated photosynthesis-like process allow it to transform the minerals from the comet into the products it needs to keep alive.

    Artist: Michael Jaecks

    Concept: The Hahnork
The Hahnork scour the Oort Cloud well past Pluto's orbit for micro-comets, icy chunks of comet nuclei that have made too many trips around the sun and have almost completely evaporated. The Hahnork then push these tiny comets back toward the sun and surf their inertia for fun. As they approach the solar winds, the small chunks of ice and rock begin to evaporate again, forming a bright tail of ionized gas on the approach. The Hahnork enjoy playing their interstellar game of 'chicken' and choose the smallest comet nuclei they can as a matter of pride. The last Hahnork left standing on his comet wins.

Concept: The Uranian Two Eyed One Eye
TUTEOE was first discovered in the late 2160's by the universal tracking observation center at Esrange. The first encounter coming from a trajectory beyond Uranus. The latest theory states that these massive beasts float about in the Kuiper Belt where they breed. From there they spread by catching a ride on any comet passing by.

    Artist: Supervlieg

    Concept: Tail Wind

The Tail Wind is a mythical space travelling creature. It clings to stationary rocks in space and slowly propels to great speeds, allowing it to travel great distances. It feeds on the rocks of the comets to feed the propulsion system on its back. It is believed to have a granite like skin, protecting it from pretty much all dangers in outer space. During its travels, which may take up many millennia, the Tail Wind becomes almost one with the comet it travels on. Breaking away from the comet is a very painfull experience. Many Tail Winds have merged with comets forever, slowly eating away at the comet until it ultimately dies and becomes a new comet.

    Concept: Comet Rider

These creatures live long and slow as they travel across the universe, buried deep inside comets, curled up like a ball. They have shown to be capable of teleportation, very occasionally switching to another comet or asteroid. Although they can survive in the inside of comets, remaining mostly dormant, they rely on crashing into a planet to spread their species there. Their hull protects them from both their space environment and the crash. After tumbling down in a rain of comet debris, they will spread life across the universe, as their protective shells are always inhabited by alien microorganisms.

...This beast has a crystalline exoskeleton, and uses the pressure of harvested gases to move its limbs. It thrives on the gases released when the comet passes near stars. When it reaches adulthood, it releases a ruby-like cloud of crystal encysted spawn. When these spawn feel the tail of a comet, they rocket towards the nucleus of it by releasing stored gases. They implant themselves in its icy surface, and begin to feed and grow until they can complete the cycle.

Only a three have ever been spotted since its 1934 discovery. It is speculated that the parasite uses comets to move from planet to planet, feeding on natural resources before using its strong wings to take off and ride another comet.

    Concept: Crelaisk
Every 20 years, the Crelaisk make their journey to the Waatrias comet. This is their spawning ground, and it is here that the elders will end their life cycle so that their spawn may live on. The comet's unique form of radiation is the only means by which the Crelaisk eggs are able to be both nurtured and eventually hatched. Only one-quarter of the hatched spawn will survive the initial hatch, as many will be unable to endure emergence from the egg into the harsh comet conditions. Those lucky enough to survive will remain on the comet for 5 years, at which point they will pass close to their new home and depart the comet.

Based on Earth/cave opening machines (in Die Hard 2)...

Sawnosed Bealzebum tears open a cavity in comet with with its spinning blades on nose, they don't last long, just enough to get a good hole dug, then creature lays the eggs inside of her in the cavity and expends itself. The eggs thrive on ooze from carcus, until they hatch and build a colony. These smaller creatures look nothing like the "queen", but like bees, they create another queen when all resourses from comet have been used up, this queen thrives on the smaller colony, until it is time to leave, she has large wings which lift her large body to another comet.

    Artist: Dr Midnight
    Concept: Shawler's Traipser
The Traipser is a relatively small parasite that clings to astral bodies as they hurl through interstellar space. Two tentacles grip the meteor at a length of up to one hundred fifty-seven (documented) feet from the creature, which extends a "wing" from each of its four spines. These wings act as a sort of solar photosynthesis, catching and converting cast-off minerals into food. The creature is not sentient and has no function, it seems, other than to exist. It's not even known just how the Traipser reproduces, as all known Traipser-worn comets originate from within the Gallic cloud, deep in the Crab Nebula.

Shawler, the creature's discoverer, found them to be adorable. His pet Traipser "Benny" was the only one to have survived more than a day in captivity. This gave birth to the phrase "hanging a Benny," or to surpass an almost certain end by some unknown means.

    Concept: Comet Rider
This 'comet rider' hides behind falsities. This pink creature is not a creature at all, its 'eyes' are simply pigmentation. If you look carefully at its back, you'll see a connection to the true creature. This serves to transmit images to its sensory organ, a dish that collects and reads from the electromagnetic spectrum. It uses bioluminescence to simulate a comet, further masking its true nature-- as well as contributing to the apparent helplessness of its psuedo-creature, its bait. When its prey draw in close, the true creature uses the lighting from its camouflage. The light helps facilitate the use of their original and short range sensory organs, their eyes. They procede to use their massively large numbers of teeth to hold its prey and rip it to shreds.

    Concept: Ion Stalker

The Ion Stalker spends its life creeping from one hurtling space debris to the next. However, the Ion Stalker is well suited to the task. It has four powerful limbs with long grasping toes and an additional smaller pair of arms for especially violent rides through space. The Ion Stalker has more in common with the plants of Earth than any of its mobile inhabitants. It feeds off the solar energy emitted from various stars and suns as it passes by. The vibrant sail atop its back is filled with tiny nodules that detect and absorb any traces of this radiation in space. This absorption also keeps the bitter cold of space at bay. However, there are times when the Ion Stalker does not pass near any substantial energy source and it is for this reason that they often seek out rides upon comets. Comets give off some of their own radiation which, although not as satisfactory as solar energy, can hold them over until the next galaxy.

    Devils arrow = comet rider

    Artist: Eugenesz
    Concept: Devil's Arrow

Heres my comet rider. An animal that uses the momentum of a speeding comet to propel and harpoon its prey. As well as scorch its victim with the heat it can conduct. All organisms in this system have evolved from a planet with a thinning atmosphere and evolved to breathe the abundance of hydrogen in space, as well as move in little to zero gravity atmospheres.

In it for the ride. Its retractable face shield open and armor glistening in the light of a far sun, the Comet Riders or "True Space Cowboys" as they've been called since earth satellites detected their presence in the late 30th century, are believed to be hitching rides on the known comets of the universe. No one has dared guess at how these creatures reach the celestial rockets, and only speculation and rumor runs amongst the scientific minds of the world.
This artists rendering shows the believed method of attachment at full velocity aided by the discovery of four fossils found in nine deep craters on the planet Jupiter.

    C.O.W. - #108: Comet Rider - Voting!

    Report #12Rv21 - 01212

Or The Watcher as it is now known.
For the last few years man has guessed what the strange anomolies observed on Comet 12Rv21. The Watcher was first observed in 2000, astounding the astronomical field. Over the last 12 years The Watcher seems to have been slowly shifting it's awareness towards Earth, what appears to be a giant red eye has opened on what can only be called it's head, and is glowing a bright blood-red colour. Also there seems to be some kind of electrical disturbance on what we now think is it's tail.. what all this means, we have no idea... but what we do know is that in a few months, the comet is on a collision course with Earth.
    God save us all.

    Artist: Peg

    Concept: The Cometrider
The cometrider leaves its planet in search of comets where to land and lay its eggs, the eggs will mature in the comets surface and the hatchlings will stir and leave the comet as it reaches ripe temperature within the comet indicating the comet is entering an apropriate atmosphere.

The Comet Riders are elusive creatures that live on the more stable darksides of comets. They can live for thousands of years on a single comet, but will occasionally leap off into space to rendezvous with another comet if they reach the correct trajectory.

How they know when to jump is a mystery, but it is believed to have something to do with the gamma ray lens on their heads. This unique form of vision allows the Comet Rider to see the universe in a completely different spectrum. However, these oddities give off immense amounts of radiation, and are highly avoided by humans.

I am sorry for the delay. I was sick for a week and then, still not recovered 100% i had to work off the shitload of work which accumulated while i was away. Still i will be very busy until end of March, but i think i can handle COW

yoitisi offered me to help out when it's needed so there won't be delays in that length anymore i guess

I didn't reject any entries for this round, because all of you had to wait so long for the poll now, i didn't want to break more hearts than i did already

Now enjoy the entries and the continue of COW

    btw new round is on:
