I need background help
I did this in Painter to practice some different brushes.
I used blunt soft pastel and soft blender.
I'm terrible at backgrounds and need some advice.
I really want to keep the background sketchy and loose(and faded). i've tried a couple of abstract large brush strokes but I can't find anythin I'm happy with.
Some advice would b great, thanx

Wow, tight rendering around that back and butt! nice.
I think for the background you just need to figure out what exactly is back there. Is she standing in a doorway? In front of steps? Once you know what your describing, it's just a matter of taking a large brush and and filling in the light and dark planes as they relate to your light source. Imply perspective and you'll be fine (you say you want it vague anyway)
I'd try and resolve her right hand a little better too. The quality of the rest of the piece is making it stand out as unfinished.
Good stuff! Rock on!
...my humble and uneducated opinion.
