My name is Keith V. Whalen and I am currently looking for work. I work in all mediums, except for vector art. I do both conceptual and illustrative work, as well as some writing.

Here are more Carnage pics I did. The first one was actually from a few years ago, so the proportions aren't too pretty, and the black and white portrait is so far unfinished. I'm not sure to paint it or just color it digitally.

I'm working on some weapon and environment designs at the moment, so here's my first fully colored environment concept, and a picture of Venom I did. I combined a bit of Venom's look in Spider-Man 3 with the classic McFarlin design.

    Hi keith_v!
Very nice sketchbook! I especially like your newest update (venoms muscles and the atmosphere in the environment artwork are really great!) and the creatures in the first post!
Hope to see more from you soon!

Just a couple more updates. The first is a mechanical butterfly sitting on a glass flower, done with colored pencils (though I may go back and clean it up digitally), and the second is an 18x24 oil painting of Eddie Brock I did for school.

I wasn't looking to draw in the style of McFarlene, I was just basing my image on his version of Venom. McFarlene always drew Venom as about the size of a large Football player or body builder, with smaller teeth and larger eyes, along with the large white spider on the chest. Those were the points that I wanted to hit on with my version.

    Just a couple of updates...
first pic is just an example of portraits done in different styles, and the second pic is a new monster concept I just finished.

I was really unhappy with how that one environment pic I did came out. It looks too muddy and sloppy. So I decided to rework the image to get the feel I initially wanted. I'm going to leave the old one up in my thread just because I think it serves as an interesting comparitive piece, to see what a week or two of practice can do.

Hey, I haven't updated my sketchbook in a while, so I figured I might toss in some new stuff.

Here's a couple of rough sketches I did. The first design took about an hour and 20 minutes with Painter. The second, I actually don't remember.

Great stuff, the first pic in post 10 and both pictures in post 6, realy show your range.
Post 9 & 11 does not showcase your true skills the attion to the details does not show up in either one of them, near like it does in your colored pencil and traditional works. Try and not sectionalize your skills to just one media, they should flow, what you learn in one will help you in the other. Like in post #10 2nd picture the digital work, the detail in the tounge works great then it gets all blury and out of focus over the rest of the animal, you lose the definition that you have in your traditional works, and it gets kinda soft and squishy, dont do that .
I hope that helps you, good luck and keep posting .
