Long ago I started this sketchbook. See where I have ended up!
These two were 1 to 2 hour speed paints i did to try and quickly capture the scene from the game lotr online which i saw my brother playing and noticed how good the atmospheric perspective is. Not only that but i get the option to practice so Ive been starting to do a few of these.
This right here is a work in progress ... im slowly learning how to start to capture a scene and such and hopefully with your help ill get the ability to get their faster.
Another work in progress is this.

Hey thanks alot dtraty its nice knowing someone is actully looking in. Was worried i wouldnt get any crits. I deff need to continue with perspective ive been seeing some speed paints where people throw up the lines very fast and have started testing it and it works great. Need to keep practicing with that! I do plan to make a website here very soon i have several projects im working on and i also understand how important it is for portfolio and jobs. Thanks for the tip on the blogspot i actully have one that i had to make for a class so ill try to stat throwing it up on their.
These are two of the acrylic paints ive done for the free art group im in.
water color peice
Lych claymore and Crusadors greatest honor
On a side note i was once given a link to a section within these forums that had hundreds of characters in different poses. Pictures taken of people in poses. Does anyone know the link to that section? After my life drawing class where we only had 3 models i was really mad that i didnt learn much and would really like to study those pictures. I guess on the same note if anyone knows of some good sections to check out on this website i would really appreciate it if you could link them too me. I really am serious about my work and when im not at school or work i am working on my own personal art to get better. Its what i love and until the day i die will be doing thats how much i love art and creativity so if you could help me a little i would be very greatful! Thanks all Please keep an eye on me!
Sorry forgot to add that im 20 Have been taking art classes at kvcc in michigan ... community college and am currently trying to get to a school that might actully teach me something. I havent learned alot from the school im at right now.

For post #1 in the hour speed paint, I love the texture and depth. I also like the glowing coming from within the trees, although it's my opinion that it doesn't fit well with the rest of the peice-- You should add some more red hues (not nessisarily glowing, but something) to help the composition. Are you planning on spending more time on it and adding other colors? I think that would be fun to see.
I like the color variety in the speed paint with the purple tower, although the lighting (or lack thereof) on the left rock seems off in relation to the shading of the path. The sky is excellently done; nice shades and convincing clouds.
I love the mushroom house scene. The treetrunk texture and flowers are convincing, but the bridge looks too computer drawn to me. Yes, I know that's an odd comment since it -was- computer drawn, but I think that making it "more realistic" would fit in with the rest of the peice better. I hope that made some sort of sense. =P
For your warrior, I think you did an excellent job on the arms. However, the right shoulder armor looks too flat, try rounding it out more or shading it to look more curved. I love the glow-details on the eyes, sword, and cape. A suggestion for future warrior-works is to try finding a more dynamic and action-filled pose.
I love your swirling vortex eye-thing. It's fun to stare at. =P Alright, so not my most brilliant comment. The hightlights on the stretching bands of red and pink are great, and the shades inbetween them are fun to look at. No real criticism for this one, I suppose. You keeping it as-is, or thinking of working with it more and turning it into a peice?
For the perspective building scene with the horse and the guy, excellent details on the mountains and bridge. I think the flowers are a bit off, because the area around the horse looks like it could possibly be liquid. Just my impression, anyways.
good start man nice to see so many updates... as for a crit i would have to say two things about your enviroments, 1) atmospheric perspective is your friend embrace him 2) your color are clashing is certain areas, bust out the ol' color wheel, and go nuts. (this the kind of stuff i have had said to me because i had very similar issues)
other than that keep the sketchs churning out and you'll be drop dead amazing in no time, good luck and keep post'n!
Taven thank you very much for your comments and crits really! The speed paints i am doing from refrense is more or less to build up my mind to capture a scene. Not only that but to build my skill of capturing it with speed. Most of the time i do a speed paint i am not planing to go back and work on it more but your comments for example on speed paint 1 i will deff keep in mind when i go to work a speed paint again if i have a similar situation. I also understand exactly what your saying about the bridge. I had some others tell me it was offsetting the peice as well when i get back into work on it heavely i will do altering to the bridge to give it more of a realistic look! Thanks again! Im going threw a huge i need to learn how to draw more things which are always good to embrase inbetween peices.
Tooled!- Could you explain a little better? Im not sure exactly what you mean with the colors clashing and such ive never really had anyone teach me good about color. as for the atmospheric comment thank you so much!!! Ill keep working as hard as i can at it!
For the female character-- I like how you're working on expression. The forearm and hand gripping the sword are also very nice! The proportions are a bit off; but nice work.
For the motion character-- The proportions are also off here (hey, don't worry, practice will make perfect!) but details like the helmet feathering being sweeped back and the billowing cape add to the illusion of motion. I think it might be better rendered if his stride was longer.
I'd suggest looking at some anatomy books or pictures and sketching them to get more familiar with the human form; a lot of artists do this, and spend time sketching various poses. If you look over the sketchbooks there's a bunch of examples.
Once again thank you taven. Sorry i havent got anything up in the past few days the forums wernt opening up for me. Its ok thou i havent had a ton of time to do some awsome things anyways. You know their was a link that i was given once from conceptart.org that had hundreds upon hundreds of different models in different poses. One set i can really remember was a guy holding a gun that looked like a Rcp-9 i think its called and he was standing up on couch's and pretending he was actully in action and ive been searching and havent been able to find it. The guy was bald. So hopefully if someone reads this they can link it too me! I would love you. So anyways heres some sketchs i did the other day.
First two are representations of Illidan stormrage. Warcraft fan ... sad to see the game moving to world of warcraft and forgeting about the awsome ness of warcraft its self. Last character was a female character i just drew.
I heart this depiction of him enchanting his sword. I drew this at work and got written up cous i hate my job so much and i go on break and get back to what i love to do ... draw.
3rd peice for the free art group .... Its yours TAKE IT.
Ok so some much needed improvement on this and now it looks sawweet. I think this might be one of the best peices i have done. Yeah the buildings till flat but seeing as how i really suck at them im starting to get a better build up so the next one will only be better. Hope you all enjoy.

lol i miss when i got on after i did something and people commented lol
Ok so here is me studying women SO WARNING NAKED WOMEN ... zomg close your eyes to reality ... cloths suck we should all be naked. Anyway a much needed study in learning to draw characters. Others stuff too not just nakedness.
Working a scene. sorry first ones little hard to see i used lighter to represent atmospheric perspective.
Dread lord my favorite looking character from Warcraft although once illidan became a hybrid void lord i was like zomg illidan. But yeah remember the dreadlords yellow attack that shot a spray of freaky yellow green mist with bugs well thats what the bottom is representing a sketch of.
One thing i liked is when i was studying most of these were clothed women that i used my own mind to try and uncloth them which i think really helped.
And to end it ... all that work on females led me to draw this wicked cool sketch.
Basicly at work i was like yo dave lets create a character and so i started going threw a list of things like ... female or male ... imortal mortal ... human humanoid or other ... yada yada and we came up with this female character who basicly is a long living protecter being
So a old dragon i did got put in some devious dragon issue thing on deviant art and i was like yeah i can totally do a way better dragon now and so i did and i effing love it. Best dragon ive done yet.
PLEASE COME LOOK AT MY SKETCH BOOK AND CRIT supergreat.
hey nice sketchbook you got here
looks like your digi work is coming along nicely, sry i can't crit i don't have that much knowledge about digital painting
about your pencils, i would work out some anatomy kinks but that comes with studying. the main thing i noticed had to do with your line quality...right now your line is equal all around, i would play with it, the thickness, looseness and how you can describe different things with different line, i can see you are trying but i would push it even further, i think it would it would really add to the life and depth of your sketches, pushing the contrast will help as well
keep up the good work man, you took a big step with that last dragon
keep up the updates!
Thank you thank you! I plan to be doing tons of more sketch studies so i will really try to keep that in mind. Some things i do as well with pencils is ill just grab my normal bland pencil 2h and draw a whole peice where what i should really do is pull out all my pencils ... plot with a 2h and start going in with the other pencils. But yes thank you!
Not bad. I would highly suggest doing some studies. Just go out on a nice day and draw a landscape or two, and it will greatly help you with things you are doing in the digital landscapes from imagination. Same goes with your figures, they are pretty weak. Build your knowledge of the figure from the inside out, learn the skeletal structure, and then the muscles. Keep up the hard work, and it will pay off!
its winter right now lol dont want to go work on landscape! One of the things i dislike about my place of living is its a giant flate plato ... no mountains or anything just big chunks of forest ... i love it but i cant wait to go and see more. It doesnt shock me at all to see some of these people doing awsome mountains when they live right near them and get the ability to look and observe them all the time. Yes i know i need to study study study.
