Hay Great stuff! I love those trees especially.

I'm particularly interested in your caricatures, and wondering if you could share some learning material in that area?

    Thanks for the comments, everyone!

Obacmar I've attached a .gif that briefly goes over the exercise. I started this off of a tutorial that I remembered from another CA artist from a few years back. Basically you make random silhouettes and force yourself to turn them into faces. I find that it sets the mood for a character with exaggerated proportions.. then it's easier to make distinct characters and have a clear direction for who they are. You really need to have a decent understanding of facial structure (like Loomis' guide), but this is just a warm-up routine to help keep things fresh.

    Richie_Rich Thanks for the encouragement!

Sidharth_Chaturvedi Thanks for dropping by! I really admire your work in your sketchbook, if you have any pointers I'd love to hear it!

I'm continuing with face studies along with the random silhouette routine. I'm hoping that the mixture will force some sort of creative groove. Still a long road ahead

I still remember how you helped me on my project, by painting this picture.

thedeath Thanks, yes I definitely drew a lot of monsters. Though I love it, I am trying to take some what of a break to do more studies. The thing with monsters is that you can make a lot of mistakes and sweep it under the rug... and that has been a crutch for me for too long.

Conte! Wow, yes, I nearly forgot about that entirely. I vaguely remember .. it was actually about this time of year wasn't it? heh. Been too long! You've been busy making art I see!

Obacmar ha! no, not a self portrait. I'm afraid my genes don't allow such extravagant facial hair, if any.

Hey man! I dig your studies, they touch a variety of important points. Your bugs are real good, I can almost see them crawling on my screen, but the one I like most is the gif showing random lines from which you imagine faces. Building a whole character out of a single line, that's just awesome. Keep it up, try and find other ways of triggering your imagination while studying!
