Making a portfolio to get into animation school? Join in on our student's critiques.

    It's that time of year....

This is an open call to any students who are currently putting together their portfolios to get into animation schools.
We are inviting students to come and sit in on critiques of animation portfolio's being prepared by our students for entry into animation schools.
You can bring what you've got of your portfolio, spread it out along side the work of our students, and gain some helpful insights into how to land yourself an overall better looking portfolio by comparing what you've got to the work that we're critiquing.....and you can do a little networking with your student colleagues as well.

    Animation portfolio images to inspire

I'll try and post images from portfolio's past and present that our students in the Animation Portfolio Workshop have made, or are currently making at this time of year to ebb you on to ever greater portfolio heights.

The two images here, are from a student named Gibson Gervais.
We taught Gibson in the early fall of 2007, for a six week intensive Animation Portfolio Workshop.
He studied with us privately 5 days a week, and on weekends with the regular class....of course he drew like a mad man when we weren't holding sessions.
Even we were quite frankly amazed.
For a guy who had little drawing experience before we met him.....he did great.
He's attending the Seneca College program now.

    Enjoy.

Animation Portfolio Workshop Accelerated / APWA

Here's several pieces from a student we taught last year in our Accelerated Animation Portfolio Workshop.

Over a two and a half month period, Ken managed to produce a great portfolio.
He had very little observational drawing background, and through tons of diligent hard work with us, managed to get accepted into several school's including the Sheridan Animation program with drawings like these.

    Enjoy!

As promised......some other portfolio images hot off the press.

These are from another of our students, applying to the Sheridan program..... so these pieces would have been presented just last week up at the college.

    Learn and enjoy!

Hand drawings for Seneca and Sheridan

Here's a couple of pic's from the portfolio of a student who has just recently finished up the Workshop.

Ksenya has used these drawings as the mandatory hand drawings for both the Seneca and the Sheridan portfolios.

Work from a portfolio for computer animation

This is a portfolio that we just got digital images of today.

Several students from our last workshop decided that they wanted to go into computer animation programs at Sheridan and Seneca College.
They added some colour work to their portfolios to demonstrate their ability to handle basic colour theory / orchestration within a given design context.

The work I've posted here is from one of our students who had completed his BFA at York University here in Toronto before joining the Workshop.

We decided to combine the colour work with the standard animation school portfolio drawings that are generally required for the 2-D programs, to show that this student could handle 2 point perspective, mass construction, basic volumetric shape design etc.

We encourage all of our students to all be well versed in observational drawing skills before they hit the software end of things, so that they are able to use the computer as a tool to express their visual ideas.

    Enjoy and learn!

Just quick note to add about the student who's work I received and posted above yesterday...he received word today of acceptances into both Sheridan's computer animation program ,as well as the Seneca College computer animation program.

I'll try to get some other pieces from that portfolio to post here so that anyone interested can see what kind of work those schools are accepting for entry into those programs.

    Hi Dpendleton.

We've been located in Toronto Canada since we started in 1999.
You'll have to come up to "sunny" Canada if you want to take part in the Workshop.

Actually, we just had a student from Virginia register for the upcoming spring session that starts at the end of April.

If your interested in getting further info about registration, or more detailed course info, please don't hesitate to mail me at:
