    .::Nox's Sketchbook::..

    Welcome to my sketchbook (and thanks for stopping by!), here you will more than likely find some random paintings and sketches, since I am a self taught artist and lack conventional direction.

    I am however, hoping to find a mentor- I'm fairly independent and just need someone to poke me in the right places to improve myself, so if any of you have some spare time, hit me up!

    Happy Drawings to you all,

    -Nox

    Okay decided to take it slow and just try drawing some faces and skulls from references to start off with. The first two are references, except the ones I starred, which are sketches from memory. The last sketch paper is all done from memory.

    Just a quickie before the day ends. >_> Vampire face, no reference, was a study of the bone structure showing through the skin.

    To siny and iceman, thanks! Drawing from reference, or painting from reference has always been an easy thing for me, especially apples.

    Just a few mixed sketches of lions both with or without reference, each individual lion about 3 minutes long. I tried not spending to much time on the details to focus more on the fluidness of the shape.

    Quite honestly, I feel like my abilities have gone backward for some reason. -_-

    Critiques most welcome.

    A WIP I just started today, still blocking out the colors. Minimal reference.

    Mofta: Thanks, I always paint pretty well with reference, but as you can see, I can't without. ><; I should probably pay more attention to my shadows though, thank you very much for the critique.

    Did a quick portrait using reference, aprox. 30 minutes, trying to get a better understanding of blocking in colors and getting used to the shape of faces.

    I think that in your portraits you need to lay down more basic shapes, guide lines for eyes and nose etc, before you go into the rendering. The the last image, the colours and shading are decent but her features look very skewed and just spaced strangely. Unless she was a very bizarre looking female, I think that some guides would have helped greatly here.

    The best way to explain it would be to find an old Andrew Loomis book. I know you can download free PDF's online. Have a search.

    PS - The apple is fantastic.
