    Help! Spectrum

It's been a while since I've been here, and I really need some help. I followed the advise I got here last year, and sent away for Spectrum's Call for Entries. Anyway, this years submissions are due very soon, and I'm not sure if the only two pieces I have this year (since they have to be completed in 2007) are worth entering. (I've done a few others, but they are more fairy tale related, and I doubt they would be interested) I'd really appreciate some input from all of you with more experience. Is there a chance with both? One? or Neither? I wish I could send a few from 2006, because some of them might be more appropriate, but there is no point in that, is there? Should I send a disk and add a folder with older images, just in case they might be interested?

    Here is the first one:

The images I have of this one (Poison) aren't that great. I had to let it go before the lighting conditions were good enough to get really good shots, but I think they are good enough for a 4X6 print. Here's one more of her:

Here are a couple shots of the second one:

Thanks so much for your help!

I may be wrong but I think they charge you for each entry. I have seen people get art in that I know was more than 2 years out of date. Any one of your images would have a good chance I believe as they are really well done, though I favor the first and the third.
    Hope that helps a bit.

Pixiwillow, I love it. I own a few spectrum books, and this could easily be on one of the pages. You should absolutely submit these.

Thanks. *smile* The foxes are sculpted from polymer, and then I use real fur from old coats and stuff to bring them to life. I cut small clumps of fur and apply it a little bit at a time with a permanent water proof adhesive.

Michelle, these are prime candidates for Spectrum. Had these been entered last year, they would have sat quite well among the pieces chosen to represent the previous year's work. The combination of color, pose, and "character" stand out.

Oddly enough, I stumbled across your site a few weeks ago and have been studying your hair applications. It does set your work apart from your contemporaries.

    Good luck with your submissions.

My offer from last time still stands. Send them as much as you have and/or as many entries as you can afford*. Both of these have an excellent shot. (*Each piece has to be submitted separately. As for eligibility, since these aren't published pieces, who's to say when something was completed? )

Pixiwillow - we've met on one of the fairy sculpting sties a while back. I agree with everyone - your work is up to the standards of what is published in Spectrum. Elwell is also right - since it isn't published work, you can likely fudge the date a bit. It's still contemporary work - not like it's from 10 years ago or anything.

Submit both if you can - they're so very good. The fact that they are creative and unique with mood and intent in addition to finely sculpted will certainly be noticed.

    Good luck!!
