Charles Ratteray: Thanks alot! As I said in your thread I really enjoyed your work as well

Dished: Thank you. I love to do color studies and hope to get more stuff done like this.

Andyhunt: Thank you for the feedback. I was unfamiliar with Dario Argento but I checked out some clips on youtube. He has some special lights in his picture that I like. I can relate to what you are saying about the feel of his work, but I think he is still more to the .. extreme

I finished the WIP I was talking about in my last post. I called it an Upskirt sketch as I found it funny because of the compositional elements and the intimate angle. It is now finished and is at the moment called UNVEILED.

I'm planning to do some more detailed designs for props for the short movie project BLACK MILK described earlier in the thread.

loving the 'unveiled' piece. i love the way the slight dot on the eye is so simple but it gives that uncomfortable feel that shes looking down at you.
    powerful!

my first croquis session! well, okay I've been doing some sketches before with naked friends and a couple of glasses of wine... but this was more for real with quicker intervals

My first lesson learned is that I need to develop a quicker style of drawing. I care too much on light and shadows rather than actual shapes using lines. I didn't get time to do the model's feet etc..

I've promised myself to pick up posemaniac sessions to get me started..

    feedbacks are welcomes

my first try at posemaniacs.. i started off soft in photoshop with 45 seconds doing 49 poses. I got kinda hooked! Still need to develop a more economic use of lines

The game LittleBigPlanet is on its way.. I started a while ago as an experiment to take all my original characters in my paintings and "transform" them into these sack boy characters in the game.

Ok, this is my sketch book, so don't expect this thesis to be nailed yet: As an "academic point of view", LittleBigPlanet is a new level- and character design tool on and made accessible - or should I say "consumerable". The way the game developers have promoted their game using the same tools seems both effective and fun. I saw a video clip from a PS3 conference where the team behind the game had made a world that worked as a presentation tool for statistic facts, graphs etc.

I explore the idea of using the tool to create a virtual gallery to promote artwork and/or create levels and character who in this interactive way delivers the artistic concepts and stories within it. Obviously this is what it is meant for - but art as an expression finds new ways all the time. This may be a more nailed down example where user generated content is made using games as mediums. Many of you have probably seen those Halo-episodes .. anyways, I think a lot of the games in future will be more about realizing dreams and ideas for gamers rather than pushing pre-written material on them. Of course it is a challenge to do this in a way that would be .. creatively inspiring

The pictures included are sort tests to see what my characters would look like in this environment.. It also puts my characters to a test to see if they are strong enough to be recognizable in new contexts!

The characters refer to the following artworks (f.l):

    Journey
    Forbidden thirst
Black Milk (as seen a lot in this thread)
    Hungrig
    Elizabethan
    Kamicarus
    Mannequin
    Above the Sea of Fog

    Black Milk anyone?

    - also included a still frame from the test shots we did in studio

it is to me some what an importance to mention that the person in the still frame below is not the actual actor, but rather a test person. We used him just to have a subject to work with. I am still discussing casting and the audition hasn't been held yet!

Just playing with the idea of a Black Milk shirt. What wouldn’t be better than a promotion shirt that goes well with a tie?

ohomoho: thanks. I think I did better now too. I wasn't really used to lines as I've tried to avoid using it for a very long time

EKOes and Grief: Thanks alot you guys. Ill get back to your SB soon

What a week. I've been busy doing just non artsy school work like packet sniffing, iptables scripting and other hacking
I did some life drawing though, hope you like - feedback is welcome. Personally I think I managed to do a more effective line since last week. I was way quicker and actually managed to get most of the body parts done this time. Yeah!

Think I'm going to pick up a new project if this weekend doesn't involve too much alcohol..

kelly x: Thank you, very much!

dCepT: yay thanks I hang around in Oslo these days, and you?

Bah. These girls keep sending me naked pictures on MSN.. I thought I could do something useful and draw quick studies out of them

2-5 minute drawings where I focused on lines but as well form using light and shadow values.

    Guardian Legend

The Guardian Legend character design project yay!

    from wikipedia, read full article

The Guardian Legend (ガーディック外伝, Gādikku Gaiden?, Guardic Gaiden) is a hybrid action-adventure/shoot 'em up video game developed by Compile for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It is the sequel to the 1986 MSX game Guardic, and was published and released in Japan by Irem in 1988, in North America by Brøderbund in 1989, and in Europe by Nintendo in 1990.

The game follows a lone protagonist, The Guardian, in her quest to stop an alien-infested space station before it reaches the planet Earth. The Guardian must destroy the space station by activating ten safety devices scattered throughout the station and then engaging its self–destruct sequence. The player, assuming the role of The Guardian, is able to explore the station in a non–linear fashion to find these safety devices and thus save Earth. Different weapons can be acquired during the course of the game to combat the hostile aliens who inhabit the space station.

So here goes; I want to dig up an old NES game that I enjoyed when I was a lot younger. (still do). The protagonesse in the game always fascinated me some how.

Her fancy armor suit that could turn her into a spaceship - wow - has long been a mystery to me how the character design and mechanical solution for that suit would be solved today. I mean, there aren't many well defined details hiding in those pixels.

Here are some screen caps from the game:

    Box art:

And another manga done by artist Naoyuki Kato.

I don't think the box art and the other illustration justifies the graphics in the game. I also intend to go towards a more realistic look so that the whole thing would be more .. probable.

    inspiration, see Iron Man

So this is sort of a fan art and a character design study. The motivation and text will probably be updated soon.

here are my first roughs. I haven't really done much study in drawing metal and principals of mechanical design yet.. but I will get to that.

Now I just threw up the girl in sexy style and tried a quick look at the suit. Some of you are probably going to bring up fellow concept artist Prometheus|ANJ's version on this. I understand that the idea is very similar to his stuff. It is not my intent to work on a new game design idea or concept art like he does here Great stuff by him. Fun and original - but as for this project I am a bit personal involved as a nostalgic. I am not really happy about his take on the character design on this one Even though the character has sexy manga style I plan to do something different.

    Hope you like.

I would very much like to get some feedback on how to do interesting humanoid and mechanic looking stuff. As mentioned, I plan to do some studies on brushed metal surfaces and similar

thanks Mischeviouslittleelf - oh, great after-sketch today.

So, tonight's sketches are based on photos from a friend. Kind of schwongy lines here as I have had a couple of beers tonight

Working on the Guardian character.. Trying to figure out how that transformation from walking mode to fly mode works.. Once I can settle down the main functional parts, i can move on streamlining the whole design.

I try to make the suit follow the Guardian's body, but it is a bit hard since there are a lot of big solid parts like wings and thrusters.

I've decided that the Guardian is going to fly thing thing with the face pointing forward, kind of superman pose. Foot pedals for assisting controls.

Inspiration, see Iron Man and Jetman (yeah, he is for real )

    jedininjaman: autobots, roll out

FightingSeraph: Thank you I'll work on the rest then!

TOOLED!: Thanks for cheering me up. BTW, here is another 99 x 45sec poses!

I felt a little stressed and couldn't really focus on the overall - but I do think I managed to reduce the use of lines which is something I aim for. But sometimes it feels like I go more into parts and loose the continuity of the figure. Suggestions?
