ThomasM - Thanks man! The smudge tool can be a great asset, just drop the spacing back all the way and put a cool brush tip on it.

    Deadlyhazard - Thanks dude!!

skMOP - No problem bro, got a few pages down below!

Eraiasu - Haha thanks man! Those are spikes nailed into his head haha. Such a crazy character from the mistborn series.

    hücumkedi - Thanks bro!

bloody - Haha yes!! I'm glad you were able to pick up on it, great characters.

Justin. - No problem man! I know exactly what you mean about the school thing, most of the time I feel like I'm just being held back.

Chaser226 - Definitely man, the only way to go!

    Sean McClain - Thanks dude!!

prsnsweeney - Thanks a lot dude, thanks for stoppin by!

NickyBeats - I do on occasion, that's a great suggestion. Velinov haha, he's the man, I would love to be able to paint like him.

Odayga - Thanks a lot man!!

    Marlee. - Thank you!!

jelmerschmit - Glad you can see some improvement, thanks for stopping by!!

Man it's been a while since I've updated this. Too long probably, but I've still been around the forums checking out what everyone's been doing. Still just trying to build up the portfolio and land some freelance work. Just finished a character that I really tried to push myself on, and I wrote up a step by step on it as well. Hope you guys dig it, it would be awesome if you learned something from it. If not, at least you can see my process and suggest things I might improve on! It's not the way I always go about things, but things end up at the same point most of the time anyway. Lemme know if you have any questions!!

Really great update...loving the character a lot. Interesting to see the process too, I was surprised to see it is similar to what I do sometimes. I wanted to ask a question though. You often do characters on a pure white background, yet I know a lot of artists prefer to use a toned background to help keep their values together since the white is so harsh. Is there a reason for you choosing to use white?

    vshen - Thanks man!

I-Z - Thanks! I usually find starting loose like that really helps with design!

    Teundeboer - Thanks dude!

hücumkedi - Haha thanks, I'll keep working with it!

    Jeremy Swan - Thanks!

Andrew Sonea - Thanks man. I don't know why I use white a lot. I've done a bunch of characters on backgrounds that I haven't been able to show yet, and I like those just as much. I don't particularly find white that harsh of a background color, and I feel it helps the silhouette of the character really stand out, since every value on the character will be darker than the background. I kind of think it looks a little cleaner in terms of design and presentation.

DoctorDigits - Thanks dude, I agree!

    Ludic - Great! Thank you!

Fetsch - Thanks man I appreciate it!

Kapil - Awesome I'm glad you liked it!

    GEB - Haha thanks dude!

    kischi - Thanks man!

Elophant - Haha thanks man,, glad you can see some improvement in my work. Just gotta keep working at it!

    Jessibelle - Haha thanks!

Andre1991 - Thanks a lot for stickin around man!

xbert - Your stuff is looking pretty sweet too man, thanks for stopping by!

DefiledVisions - Glad you liked it man, thanks!!

Thanks for the support everyone! Sorry I haven't been able to visit all of your sketchbooks yet. Here's a piece I've been working at for a long time now, trying to get it just right and still trying to push every thing further. It's a scene from the book 'Hyperion', pretty crazy stuff.

Yeah, great tension in the clothing and the flesh on the last one. The expression works so well.

Oh man that is great! Only thing I notice is his right hand is much larger than his left hand, but other than that looks fantastic. Would be cool to see more Hyperion sketches (the Shrike, or Tesla trees).

dude thats flipping intense! Looks like a bad ass book. But you really captured the movement quite well, and the colors are superb. Feel sorry for the Father though, looks like he's having a rough day lol.
