Archive from '08:
Alright, my last sketchbook kinda faded off into nothing. I've done alot more stuff since then, so I will post all that here.
My name's Jasper, I'm now 17 years old, and I'm trying figure what I'm going to do in college right now. I'd love to do something involving art, but I probably won't be going to a big art college, I don't have the money for that. I'll try and stay motivated and update at least once every week.
Any comments, crits, etc. is appreciated. I want to get better, so anything you have to add will be helpful.
I'll upload more stuff as I get them scanned.
Heres is some random sketch in painter, no ref.
An unfinished sketch that I thought looked cool
Here the first self portrait I've painted so far, for teen challenge 39. I haven't studied much color yet, so I left it black and white for now.
I'll have more stuff soon once I get it scanned.
Ok, here's some more stuff I just got scanned.
The first four Loomis and Bridgman studies I did at work in my really small
Portrait of a middle eastern man
This one is almost a year old, colored pencil study, about 45 minutes
I was drawing this character the other day, and I realized I need to do some more torso studies, so here they are
I've got a vine charcoal study of my drawing teacher that I'm trying to upload, but every time a resize it it becomes an unreadable file. I'll post that up when I can figure it out.

Nice studies, you're on the right track man!
Wish when i was 17 i could draw this good. Your stuff looks really nice. Love the torso studies.
Keep it up!
17 and already so damn talented!!
"Tears will drown in the wake of delight"
nice stuff, deamn, really love ur anathomy studies, im 1,5 years ahead of you and you still beat me, not good at all >,<
Carbono - Thanks, those torso studies are definately helping
Marjolein - Thanks for the kind words
Lotet - Thanks man. I don't think I'm better than you are. You've got a different style of artwork...I haven't even really developed my own style yet.
Ok, for some reason, this picture always became unreadable when I resized it. It's a 45 min portrait of my art teacher at school, using vine charcoal, almost a year old. I'll have more stuff soon.
hey man i'm 17 too, your stuff is great.I really like the bridgeman studies, inspires me to do more studies.
man im really surprised at the quality of you pencil stuff at just 17, you have some really nice line quality.
keep up the studies, and lets see some imaginational stuff too
lol thanks for the replies
Ok so much for updating every week...
I've got a lot of drawings and other traditional stuff that i either dont have scanned yet or my art teacher still has to grade, soo...i'll just throw up some digital stuff that i thought turned out well
If any of these images are too large, let me know and i will try and resize them.
These are just some random sketches, not finished and not really going anywhere
this one i looked at the game cover for shadow of the colossus and copied the silhouette, then i just filled it in with whatever
finally colored one
i kinda like this one, did it for a homework assignment for drawing class
another sp, i think they are starting to get better
Ok here are some of the life drawings i have been doing
This one we had to try and use edges and shapes and stuff to define forms more
I work at an ice cream place...so i drew a banana one night when there was a break in the flow of customers
I'll have some more interesting stuff scanned soon that i should be able to post later tonight
you got good observational skills...
i like your digitals...
keep on practising, it will only get better
These are real solid, keep up the great work.
You're breaking away from it in those last two paintings, but there's a danger in some of them of becoming too "academic." You've got natural, top-tier drawings, and have the fundamentals down as well as anyone else, but it seems like you're restraining yourself in terms of composition and subject matter.
I'd love to see what you did if you just "went nuts" on a drawing.
You've got some nice work going so far, my friend. You sound like you're in my position. I'm going to a state school for a couple years and then I'm hoping to have enough money and a good enough portfolio to kind of make ends meet so I can transfer to a bigger school. But in the mean time, it's not really where you go, but what you do while you're there. Keep up the good work. Stay inspired.
I really like the self portraits, but don't be afraid to use some more powerful colors and dramatic shadows. Keep it up
Creatinity: thanks man, im trying to stay motivated and practice as much as i can
Frogosis: hey thanks for the reply, for the crit...i will try and just let go on more drawings and see what happens
Sketcheth: yeah man my senior year is getting closer, i've gotta come up with a decision on what im going to do/where im going to go. im a newb with colors so any helpful crits about theory and such will help. thanks for stopping by
Blaz: hah thanks man i like that one too. i forget what brush i used but i think it turned out well.
Alright heres some more stuff scanned today, mostly drawing homework where we had to draw and image of a word, but i can't remember what the word was for most of the pictures??
comments and such are welcome, no matter how harsh.
I thought this one turned out well for using no ref
this one was done at a boring day at work on some spare peice of cardboard i found...
dude! did you draw that picture of the tornadoe from a pic you found on the internet, cuz I have an identical water color sketch.
Pulverizer15: i did that tornado picture a while ago out of a national geographic magazine...awesome mags for landscapes and such
Jorge: thanks man im tryin my best
ok so here is my first color life study done in photoshop. fruits and stuff always seem to be great subjects for still lifes, so i went with a tomato that i had in my fridge. i enjoyed this waaay more than doing a picture from a photograph, i kind of like not being able to use the color picker and choosing the colors myself. not quite sure how long i spent on this, but i kinda got bored and didnt want to finish the stem.
vibhas virwani - thanks man i will
seth1 - thank you, i've gotta get some more animal studies in here
flaskpost - thanks dude bridgman studies are awesome, i love the way he simplifies anatomy
Heres some pen and ink work from art class, i've never used this medium for drawing before but i really like the results.
The rest of these are a bunch of gesture studies, good ones and bad ones, from the first lord of the rings...unfortunately i only have it on VHS...
Wow long time since any update...seems like a have these weird breaks.
Hoping to get an inuos3 9x12 soon, and get rid of this 4x5 graphire...so pumped for that.
Sorry for a lack a work in this post, just one here that i thought was worth posting. Once I get some more pencil stuff scanned i'll have those up.
A study of a portrait on deviantart.com that I thought looked really nice...trying to practice using textures to incorporate more realism into my work.
