Hmmmmm. Interesting. But... I kinda wished it went in the other direction. Ugly to beauty is the typical way we think of things making the change.

I, on the other hand, was much cuter as a pupae.

I'd like to ask something. By the moment my concept would be a creature that is ugly on earth and becomes beautiful as it enters water. Is it considered a metamorphosis?

Question: Has anyone else had difficulty uploading pictures to Photobucket in the last couple of days? I'm finding hard to get the page to load, and even when I can, I can never upload a picture. This is the first time in a while I've had trouble with it. I've tried it at several different times of day in both IE and Firefox.

    hrmph.

uuh....you catched me flat-footed here...actually i thought about a methamorphosis like it happens with butterflys...a creature which changes its shape permanently in his life cycle. Not switching from one shape to another and back again...if your creature changes its shape 1 time after getting in contact with water it's ok i think. But not, if it changes back when leaving the water

Excellent anatomy there, Tessilago. Its rear right foot seems to be twisted too much, though.

I started to sketch some ideas last night and I managed to get ugly-to-ugly I justified it by thinking the `beauty` comes from the colors on the adults fins, butterfly-wing eyes etc. Not too sure if I'm going to go this way yet.

i'll try to pitch in with this one as well, hopefully i can improve!

the "fisher cat" undergoes a metamorphosis in which it develops paired front forelegs with a bunch of webbing, this increases fish catching efficiency. iridescent patterns on the webbing and a beautiful jungle cat markings are a stark contrast to its juvenile form which is a bit like a naked rat-maggot..

    C.O.W. - #105: Metamorphosis "Ugly To Beauty"

gonna create some stronger morphological links between them, atm a bit too seperate looking for my liking. this is just my first addled doodles this morning (i havent had a coffee yet either)

I had to change a bit my ideas, but here is my primary design :

    C.O.W. - #105: Metamorphosis "Ugly To Beauty"[/IMG]

The Malaïthae ( Maletus Ferenii ) bears in the swampy Colohovan mangroves. The immature form grows there, in the murk and mud of the forest until it's about two years old. Then, when he becomes sexually mature, their appearance changes completely. They quit their mangroves and head-out to the coral seas. Only then, their muddy camouflage switches to a beautiful and colourful display, wich used to repel predators as well as a mating display. Thorns on the head expands and become softer. Their scales brightens and become less bumpy. Only females will come back to land to lay their eggs.

Please critic! I also want ideas on for the adult's tail.

Maybe i should form a habit of drawing detailed sketches (everebody seems to do so). I mostly start with some very (VERY) rough scribbled lines but with a very (VERY ) detailed image in my head.

Here is my WIP and a small pic to give an idea how i want to add wings and hands (very rough, only ment to give you an idea of what will follow) The wings will be very flimsy and translucent ( a mix of butterfly wings and dragonfly wings) and the humanlike hands (6, not 4 like in the picture) will have a better gesture.

First idea (third pic) was, that the creature has a large bubble on the end of its tail and uses it to fly, but this idea seemed to be to simple and not very attractiv to me ... but when i now look at it and think of combining it with the 6 hands (without the wings) holding the tail ... what do you think, which way should i go?

Advices, suggestiones, critique and commands are highly welcome. (Have to improve if i want to be a pro some day).

P.S. The bottom of his abdomen seems twisted no, have to correct it.
