    EOW #75 Across the Abyss

    EOW #75 Across the abyss

    DUE December 29 th

Brief. an Abyss is a canyon with no bottom. Its up to you what is across it. and how you get there. It could be a man made abyss like in Star wars5 (the empire strikes back..theres lots of hanging over vast chasms on spindly scaffolding) it could be the chasm you cross to get to the gates of heaven. It could have stairs or a bridge or derigibles,

NO description required, say what you need to say visually.

    required elements
    An Abyss or Chasm
    some means of crossing it

This seems like a really cool topic and I am definitely interested. I will see if I can at least get a good rough sketch up and running. This week's C.H.O.W. is really consuming me.Hope to post soon. =)

The flat world of Anakarsis was cracked in two parts by an earthquake during its Middle Age. Only after the technological development of flying machines its inhabitants were able to cross the Astrabathys ("Stars in the Deep" in the ancient language of the Whole World). Where the abyss was narrower they built two cities serving two airports, the jump-points towards the other side.

P.S. No time for more details...
I realized late that if a river flows through a desert some green could sprout. Then I decide that isn't water, that's... don't know... oil. Or tar maybe... Or veeery salty water.

ok folks ..I hate to be a bitch about this. But I give you an easy topic. I expect better than speed paints and happy accidents.

I think yours looks pretty good Joey. Of course it could use some more detail up front, and I can't tell if there's water or not at the bottom. I like the lighting and the colors you have though.

Anyways, here's what I have so far. I have a lot more work to do still, but you get the basic idea.

Well, I think I might be in. Hadn't had time to even check the topic until a few minutes ago, but I had a concept hit me the moment I read it. Sketching it out a bit as I type this, so we'll see what happens.

Some really nice pieces and WIP's so far. Hallo and jfwalls, killer as usual. And Joey... Big difference in your update. Huge. Glad you took another pass at it, though I also agree with your original feel of liking the simplicity. The crowds love their details though.

hey all, merry christmas, just wanted to post a piece I did this morning, as opposed to the other holiday piece I did for idw, this one is on a serious note, just trying to maybe get a few people to appreciate what they have, a warm bed, nice food, because that is what christmas is all about, being compassionate towards others, it's not about buying and getting material posessions, which is what our mainstream culture is always telling us it is. just as it is always telling us that we are worth only as much as the money and objects we possess.
anyways, this isn't my final for this eow, I'm doing a different concept, but I did do this painting for this thing,
it's called "people of the abyss" and it was done from a reference shot of skid row

eelevation, its a very nice image, and a very nice gesture of words. But please dont take this the wrong way, i'm not trying to be offensive to you or anything, just making you think about your own words here, but when you sat down to have your meal yesterday, did you think to yourself, "wait there, i'm not starving, i can go without food for at least 1 whole day" then basicly wrapped your meal in a bag or a box and then simply went outside and gave your meal and every bit of food for that 1 day to another person desperetly needing it or did you just carry on like every other so called christian including myself and enjoyed the food and festivities? Sorry if what i just said sounded a little harsh, but thiinking about others less fortunate is great, but if all it is , is thinking and without actually doing anything about it, then basicly its a meaningless gesture.

@crx: I've already overworked the painting. I think I sunk some 12~13 hours on it. Yes, it still looks like a speedpaint because I'm kinda abusing tieri's brushes there, but I don't think spending more time on it will result in a significant improvement. I will understand if you don't take it to poll.

grenogs- I see what you are saying and yeah, your comment is kind of cynical, especially considering I give to homeless people on a daily basis, whether it is all of the spare change in my pocket, or buying them a bagel or a muffin or if I have food on me and they ask I will give them some of mine, so yes I do think I give. I am a young guy and I don't have a lot of money right now, but if everyone gave a chunk proportionate to what they own, it might balance out the problem. No I didn't take my parents turkey outside and give it away, but I have volunteered at homeless shelters. whatever, I probably shouldn't have responded to it, I just made the image because it was on my my mind and I wanted others to think about it, and maybe someone with more money than myself here would think more about it too.

eelevation, then i admire you for that. So i opologise to you, for you are one of the few. Because i know i have hered so many people preach and preach and go on about how much people should help each other this time of year, and yet they never actualy do anything themselves now or even any other times of the year. I guess its one of those little things that winds me up , in the same way some famous multi millionaires represent charities telling the whole world to give some money to their cause, but at the same time only giving a small percentage of their own money, (which is most likely just the interest of their early earning, becouse they would rather give it away and look good than give it to the tax man. Or the other one which makes me laugh is vegetarians that wear leather boots, giving the excuse that leather is only a bi-product and has nothing to do with meat, and to not use it would be a waiste,(ye right).

Stunning piece, Blinckk. Both peaceful and dramatic, for me at least. And welcome aboard!

The quality is really looking promising this round.

    Red face Almost Done

woooow, everyone's got great stuff already! Well, I've been a lurker for a while and finally got the guts to do one of the activities. This looked fun, and I gave it a shot! I know my submission is...poop compared to everyone else's, but I put a lot of time into this. :] It's about 90% done, mainly I just need to figure out how to do the lights.

MeMe: Lookin' good, no crits so far that I can think of. Like your CHOW too.

Blinckk: Great atmosphere, and nice colors. Are the two guys up front an adult and a child? Just wondering why one is smaller than the other.

Arbu: You're getting there. Get some reference for the cliffs, water, etc. and take a look at them. Your rocks need more texture and a more faceted appearance, your water is too even and uniformly colored, and the colors aren't quite working. Keep working on it!
