Nice sketchbook menno, i like the designs you have in here.
As for the goblin piece, the red outline on the monster you have feels a bit out of place on top of the monster.
Voor de rest ga zo door!

    Weavel: thanks, much appreciated

I'm terribly sorry for the long absence, I just bought a new computer, and all the games I could suddenly play were too good to pass up... I did get some colour studies done however. Some done from movie stills, others from photo's.

I love the guy with the mechanical arm and all of your boxy figure sketches. I think I'm going to have to do some boxy sketches of my own now, they look very helpful.

None of the ideas expressed above are actually mine. They are told to me by Luthor and Ferdinand, the five inch tall space aliens who live under my desk. In return for these ideas, I have given them permission to eat any dust bunnies they may find there.

wow, I really wish I could draw people half as good as some of the things I saw in this topic.

Most of the time its just pose, I'm so terrible at this aspect of drawing people, getting the correct pose down for a person before actually drawing them is so important and so hard for me. Things always look weird, idk, I need lots of practice here... I don't draw people nearly as much as I should, and thats the only way i'll get better.

I do how ever enjoy drawing people, like watching a model and drawing them. I find its so much easier to do (get the right pose) when you have something to actually look at.

So, yeah, I'm back from the dead. Hades says hello. I've been really busy lately with work and school and whatnot. And now I feel bad because I just noticed all the wonderful replies I got during my absence.

Hive_minD: thank you sir, I will

Snake-Woman: yeah, I can really recommend that! It really helps nailing the pose early on (which saves time later on). Also it's easy to check the gravity this way. Mentler's threads on the stuff is a must-see.

Apoc4lypse: For me, it's all about the silhouette. Once you get that down, the rest is just filling in the details. Block in the major shapes much like you would in painting. But always keep your knowledge of anatomy, form and perspective in the back of your head to check what you're drawing.

rupeshtalaskar: With renewed vigor I shall go forth and draw.

So, things are a bit quiet on the drawing side, but I do have a few nuggets to share. First, there's a painting I'm working on based on a sketch I did earlier. Still very far from done.

Aside from this I've been drawing out concepts for a story I've had in my mind for years now... where it is slowly refining into something noteworthy. Here's mugshots of the main characters.

You can see a bit of an iterative process going on here; I find it hard to get the character in one go.

    SVargo: Thank you!

Doudou: Will do. I hope to get back to drawing some active gestures soon.

A quick concept today; a "hazard" space-suit type thing. I should work out the concept with thumbnails more often; it saves a butt-load of time.

MattGamer: Thank you! Still got a lot to learn though.

Today a quick portrait. I'm trying to keep the brush strokes loose and refrain myself from over-polishing.

    Dan Valkar: thank you!

Something different today; a painting done by my dad. It's probably his first painting in ten years or so. I doubt he'll open up his own sketchbook, so I might post some of his stuff on mine from time to time.

You'll have to excuse the crappy photo quality, it was kind of dark when I took it.

SEVANS: thanks, cool of you to check back.

Here's some gorilla studies and a few thumbnails for a cartoon-style concept.

Did a few pages of 60 second poses, because I'm sorely lacking in that area. Also did a colour study from which I learned a lot about skin reflectivity. As you can probably see, I got bored with it when I reached the head. Seems like a reoccurring theme for me...

Hi all. These are some redesigns of characters I posted a while back. Trying to find some sort of style I can live with.
