Hey, A! I wanted to quickly reply in your sb since you did the same for me in mine - and thanks much for that!

Really sweet figure work in here! The line work really is nice! Oh, and values were/are my weak spot, too - but keep at it! Practice, practice and practice some more! Keep it up!

Hiiii Asa! (I didn't know you were from Iceland, I love that place, the land of interesting people!) I like that you went back to basics, studying anatomy, drawing from life and such, that's very good. I like your pencils a lot, and I think you should focus more on values now, not so much on color. Do a lot of pencil renders/greyscales in photoshop or whatever you use, and then later on when it gets more comfortable, try out the color realm. Hope you post more!
    Lots of Love

Whoa, what's going on? Thanks everyone for replying, have a warm muffin!

Clochette - Thanks! Glad someone sees improvements, really encouraging
Lex.W - Thank you, again, really glad improvement is showing Thanks for the nice comments on the witch, I hope the bg is alright, just ended up doing something simple.
schematic hands - Thanks a lot! All this talk about improvement is making my ego happy
algenpfleger - Hey man, thanks! Haha, I love your little jaw thing Glad you liked the sketches and the witch, yay!
catukas - Thanks for stopping by, cheers!
Flaskpost - Tight improvement sounds sweet, thanks a lot
nonie - Thanks! So glad to meet another Avatar fan! Glad you liked the Katara, I have to do more Avatar fanart. Thanks for the link too, been browsing a lot, very inspiring work.
PatriciaS - Thanks so much Practice is indeed the keyword! Darn values need to be tackled, will most def do.
Reika - Thanks so much for the advice As I said, I'm gonna kick the values' butt with BW exercises! And hehe, good to my nationaly makes me instantly interesting, you're too sweet!
comixnut - Thanks sir, killing stuff is indeed my goal
Quinn Simoes - Hi man, thanks for the kind words! Glad you liked the witch's colour palette, it was a little headache to put together.
    Pad&pencil - Wow, thanks a lot, that's a great compliment

I finally started working again on my neverending painting in the last few days, I really want to finish it soon. Honestly, I must be setting some records, I work so incredibly slow. I think that pause did me good, though, something must've clicked recently because I saw so many glaring faults right away!

I tried pushing the values, what do you think? And I know it's still really rough, but I'm posting a WIP now so I could get helpful crits before I refine it too much. I also tried a quick ambient lighting, although I see now the source isn't quite consistant enough. Oh, and finally redid the colour in the bg, the green was indeed horrible

I just hate feeling so lost in the whole process, I never really know what I'm doing and often just stumble upon something and don't know how to replicate it again. I guess I just need more practice.

And just for the fun of it, here's a picture of my friend after getting the tattoos I designed for her She changed the colours, though. It's quite something!

Yours was a nice sketchbook to look through.

After viewing the process on the guy and girl painting, one thing sticks out to me. Individually, most of your forms read well. However, therein lies the problem: individually. As you mentioned, the piece lacks a consistent light source. You've got to pick a direction, and go with it. This will also allow you to pick out your lightest lights and darkest darks, which will help if you try to push the values. Also, the cast shadows will be particularly important to make the figures read as close together. Though they are physically interacting, they are not spacially. I can't wait to see this one finished. It looks like it has been an excellent learning process.

you have a lot of really nice stuff in here. im enjoying hte new witch and you pencil sketches, they are very precise but fluid at the same time. i think your latest looks a bit too static compared with your other work although i know its not finished

there you goooooo nice it looks!

watch the guy's skintones - the mids are getting really desaturated from the blending. push them a bit, mids should be more saturated in general. but that's about my only crit, since it looks awesome!! so go! finish it!

thanks for checking out my sketchbook

i really like your pencil stuff. you have a nice spontaneity and confidence in your strokes, especially in your wisps and curls. if you are going to rely so heavily on line in your paintings i would recommend varying the line a bit more.

Hoo just stepping in to give you some motivation, so draw

About the painting and values, I think what kills it the most is the background, it's, like the brightest part of your painting! Also, if you really want to push the values more, don't hesitate to go _dark_ in some places. Your figures are only floating around somewhere mid-range, making them very flat. Also, I would consider getting rid of those folds in the middle region of her dress, and maybe add a few horizontal folds instead. Likethis, it looks messy.

But damn, you're on your way!

I think what I've enjoyed most about looking through this is the unique faces...they're all so different and expressive...so much personality. You've also got some really great studies in these pages...kudos for the meticulous attention to detail in your inking, as well! Few have the patience for that kind of thing. I'm looking forward to the final product of this painting...

I like the flow of your figure work. The drawings and paintings are great.
The one crit I have, and I do not know if it was intentional,
the mouth on the male figure seems awkward.
I can't wait to see more, post again soon.

alright AsaB! Good to see a update on that big piece. Okay, I'm with ~Faust with those values again. Just watch those lights and darks and think of knocking the intensity of that background down a bit. Looks good and nifty tattoo work.

Heya AsaB, welcome to sketchgroup... just dropping in to see how you're doing.

Alright, first off, I am completely envious of your linework. Your lines are so great! I know it sounds silly to complement something like that, but I mean it. You really have your shapes down. I'll have to study some of your work closer to learn some techniques from you on this.

Oh, I've also seen your work many times before, just never really posted anything. I was kind of intimidated by your work honestly. But now look at us, in a sketchgroup together lol!
We'll have to set-up something with everyone to try to make us all great. Maybe a weekly activity or something to see how the ball gets going? I'd just really like to be in an active sketchgroup.
Anyway, keep up the good work, can't wait till next update.
