Different grips lend themselves to different things. If you can get done what you need to get done (without damaging your hand) then it doesn't matter. It can be helpful to understand what grips are conducive to what though. Here's a link to some descriptions I wrote a while back:
Well, somthing like holding a pencil without using the pointing finger at all, or maybe with crooked wrist upward or stuff like that. Those one that doesn't look like it was meant for some specific technique but the person always hold it like that for writing.
Would they be perhaps bad for drawing straight lines or a smooth curve because of unnatural movement ?
I hold my pens between my middle and ring finger. The Ring finger (where my artist's callous is) acts like the cushion, the middle rests on "top" like the pointer should, and the pointer is somewhere between flanking the opposite side of the pen in correlation to the ring finger and being on "top" with the middle finger.
It's more like a habit, really.
I've been holding utensils like that for as long as I can remember. Even holding Forks and Chopsticks get moved one finger over from where they should be. I don't think it affects my performance, I do feel unsteady and out of control holding my pencils the correct way, but that likely has more to do with unfamiliarity of it than anything anatomical.
