    `rawr's sketchbook

Hi, a little about myself first i guess. I'm a character texture artist at Bardel up in rainy Vancouver BC. Whenever i'm not in transit between home and work using pencil and paper, everything I do is on a cintiq with cs2 and painterX. I use a lot of maya at work so I get burned out on 3d and escape to painting to relax when i'm home.
I've been around these forums for a while just enjoying viewing all the talent but now I'm going to dive right into the community so hit me with your critiques and comments please and I'll do my best to reciprocate!

    cheers,
    Frank

-on with some of my latest paintings, most are no more than 2 hours, but I've lost track of time on a few

I'm super excited about Revelations. hope I can meet some of the talent I see around here in person!

dcproductions25: thanks, seems like very painter I admire has done one of those alien tripod paintings so I had to tip my hat... even though it's a quadrapod(?) because it looked really off balance with 3 legs.

MilesNoctis: thanks for the kind words, all of what I have right now is all digital and overworked in my opinion. My scanner died, the one at work is murder to operate and I lent out my camera, but when one of those problems solves itself I'll scan some of the stuff from my sketchbook!

here's a quick one from tonight that I ran through every dirty photoshop trick I had to make it 'finished' after laying down the values. I have a prelim sketch of it too.

Hobo85: Did that after my yearly watching of the series, as for a book, maybe in a few years of hard work thanks!

I love the hard, crisp edges! It's vaguely cartoony with an awesome-sauce feel. Keep it up! I can't wait to see how your style will develop further!

hmm... some interesting landscapes, and some of the paintings are smooth but kinda lack the focus of the painting.

l0stinth0ughts: yeah, i'm still working on the technical aspects of painting unfortunately, hopefully i can work in more attention to composition as I progress.

got a bit backlog of stuff to post but here's a pinup i did a couple days ago for/of my gf.

Great outpost concept...I like it a lot. My only critique is that it doesn't scream "military" and could be a generic sci-fi building. Maybe some "supply" creates or a turret or two for defense? Maybe have some guns lying against the wall? There is something similar to this in the MB portfolio and they have tons of arms and fortifications lying around. Just a thought! Great work though.
