Love the alien guy a lot. I think that the rim light on his face looks great and sculpts the form nicely but it doesn't look that good on his horns, rim light on top of them flattens the form a bit...

    zou: Thank you!

ankitm: Thank you so much! Lots of boredom I guess, haha.

    Parsakoira: Broccolidog? ..Interesting!

richart: Thank you! I was aiming for a traditional feel, glad that comes through.

    Thujon: Thank you so much!

sourgasm: Josh, you're wonderful! Thank you so much. I'm going to go back and apply all the changes( and definitely add something to the front of the robe, that's been bugging me ever since). Really really appreciate you taking the time to comment!

alffla: Thanks a lot! Yea that alien really needs a design ont he front of the robe. Looks like sackcloth now.

Ivan Turcin: Thank you, you're very kind.

    DSmith: Thank you so much!

Benjie: Thank you, I'm glad you like it! It's my current favorite

Jason Scanlon: Jason! It was so nice to meet you You're amazing yourself, you sketchbookfcrazyman!

    *ViRuS*: Thank you so much!

    N E X T: Thanks a lot!

thirdeye: Thank you! The top of the horns was meant to be flat, so it is more angular than round. I don't think that it looks quite so good yet though, needs more work.

Magic Man: Hey Darren, love your work! Thanks for stopping by

So, I went to Berlin for MADE, met some supersupersuperwonderful people. Cut my trip short, got back home, got engaged and got married soon after I've moved to Portland,OR now ( currently in Seattle for 2 more days, whee!) and I FINALLY got some time to painting again. Here are some WIPS and some doodles.

I started this to test out Sculptris( free! easy to use! fun!) and did a quick Photoshop paintover on it.

    Quick portrait experiment:

I thought I'd try painting my doodle for the War General's Pet contest that happened a while ago. This is supposed to be a baby version of a creature that would grow up to be a mean vicious war beast. Still very much a WIP.

Started with some composition tests for a Shaman painting. I doodled this for the Newborn contest and I finally have the time to work on it now.

That little Sculptris creature is adorable! I'll have to check out this software to see if it's compatible with my old system! Elegantly described and lovingly coloured self-portrait. War General's pet is a fat cutie... nice colours, too.

Oh yeah... Big Congrats on getting married!!

It's been too long since I've wandered through these online art halls.

Yay! Hurray for updates! I've been looking forward to them since coming back from MADE. As always, I love your use of texture and lighting. Next time I catch you online I'm going to have to ask you about how you created all the rich textures in the portrait. I loved how organic it looks.

The War General's pet is really cute. He reminds me of the really greedy dinosaur from the Land Before Time.

Anyway, it was awesome meeting you and, again, big congrats on getting married! I might be heading to Portland some time next year to visit family and it would be awesome if we could meet up. If not, then maybe at the next MADE??
Looking foward to seeing more art!
    Hope all's super awesome.

kischi: Thank you! It was a fun exercise.

sin eater: Thanks! I was planning on doing a grown-up version of the creature at some point. Hopefully soon, before I get bored of it

    Holland: Thank you!

    qlotzan: Thanks a lot!

Sharkcellar: Thank you! At some point I want to try and sculpt something and then paint it from various angles/ different lighting. I think it will be a great exercise to understand form and light better. I've collected a bunch of materials for Sculptris ( much like the Zbrush matcaps), I'm happy to pass them on if you want to use it for practise.

ThomasM: Thanks a lot! That guy still needs some work. It's amazing, I'll be all done with a painting and then I go back to look at it in a few days and it is like a kick in the face because there is SOOOOO much to fix. Oh well, I'm glad that I can atleast spot those errors, haha.

William b. Hand:Thank you! We need more updates from you! Pretty please?

Belindi: It was great to meet you! You should totally come visit and we can hang out. Portland is a very artsy place, I'm sure you will like it.

A little update on the pet. I might go back to the older eyes. I'm torn between making him all puppy-cute and retaining the monster-creature-ness of it. I'm also thinking about changing the background, so it is more illustration-y.

A WIP caricature of my husband. I suck at caricatures, I need to learn to exaggerate facial features without my brain going "'aaaahhh the proportions are off!'.

lolbbq: Thank you! That was fun to paint

    Metal Fingers: Thanks a lot!

jsn: Thank you! I struggled a lot with trying to exaggerate while still trying to make it look like him. I guess I just need to practice more

Jason Scanlon: Jason! That baby monster has been neglected for a while, need to get back to it. Thanks for stopping by!

dleoblack: Thank you for the wishes and thanks for the Min comparison, hehe. I love his work, it is a huge compliment!

Here's another painterly thingy I did last night. The ref photo is by Marcus Ranum. Just experimenting with brush textures and composition.

I haven't seen your sketchbook before. Just went through it, and now I just don't know what to say. Amazing work. Simply amazing and inspiring. Now I got to go paint, before I kill myself. bye.

    Best wishes,
    Abee

Ps. And on the more casual side! You don't happen to have a few photoshop-brushes to spare? Grown tired of the few that I have and I find alot of your brushes to be very interesting!

Ps2. Did I mention you're amazing? Well, I'll say it again. WOW!

The devil is in the detail , so they say!

Beautiful texture on your Husband's caricature , theres so much intensity in the details that my pupil decided to split!

The color choices on your more brushy stuff ( esp #590 ) brings out a great feeling that keeps my eyes zombified locked on them! Nee..e.e.e..d..d...m....o.o.o...r.e..e..
