cool new updates man. really dig the snake "temple" enviro. you really have a thing for chicks with swords and medieval armour suits. keep pushing in that direction. i like that combination of things.

also, your variety of colours and textures used to create your enviros is maturing. very nice!

    Yeeeahh! Great update Mike!

I'm really loving the mushroom one and the Butt man one. The composition on the last one is great!...butt man as it seems to have been named

The texture work on the mushroom piece is great too! It's really well done. I do have a crit though for it, I would just watch your colors and how the temperatures shift as they come towards the viewer (inside the cave) and as they near the mouth of the cave. I think if you took another quick pass on that piece, applying the whole temperature thing Jason was talking about in his colour class, it would really bring it all together. Even something as simple as a slightly cooler color inside and a sligtly orange/warm color as it nears the opening.

It's all looking great man as usual

I know what you mean by getting lazy with posting, I keep doing it too! If you stop I'll stop too

i really like the black silhouettes for the team thingy! nice!
some of the more rendered characters seem out of balance, and has sort of a weird rythm to them.
and watch out with the feet, and try to make them connect to the ground properly.
it´s really tricky, but try to think of basic shapes in perspective. and make some figure studies!
    keep up the good work!

Awesome to see you guys participating in the TEAM CHOW thingamajig. Stellar work so far. Your character developing abilities are really taking shape. Congratulations man! I, on the other hand, need to spend some more time in that department.

Spend a good amount of time on integrating your characters into the enviros you've created for them. While I know its just a mock up, the characters look really pasted in. Also, who are the bad guys? who are the bad guys? I'm having a little trouble distinguishing between the two camps. Make sure the distinction is clear and that the colour palettes are appropriate for each camp. I'm sure you guys are already aware of this and working on it but I thought I'd mention it.

    Cheers! ...and good luck!

hala: haha woohoo Team Chonyid Bardo!

Jizu: hey thanks man, yea hope to do a session soon!

Flaskpost: thanks dood for the tip, definitely gonna do some proper perspective studies before any kind of final render, actually i'm not even gonna use any of those sketches just cuz they wacktastic, hehe!

biggjoee5790: thanks mate, yea can't wait till the final!

NoodleDoodle: thanks dood, dig ur latest sketches!

Peetaer: thanks man! Hehe I have no idea who the bad guys are as well, actually that mock is a compilation of everyone's first few rough sketches, it is very pasted but I knew we weren't gonna use for the finish so I didn't spend too much time on it but good eye; thanks for the tips on the character distinction!

some random sketches, first one is a quick sketch of my ex from photo ref and was really happy with the last snowy sketch enviro cuz it's prolly quickest speedy done about 10mins messing around with custom brushes and different modes

Duude these enviros just keep getting better and better! You should do more of those studies, I'm loving them.

I do notice tho that there is a marked difference between the last enviro and the other digital pieces above it. The snow study is alot looser..it has more life to it than the other paintings. The background of the one with the girl has that same feeling but then the girl feels stiff. I'm not sure exactly what it is, however it might help if you try to render/paint the characters in the same loose, free way you're doing those landscape studies.

Anyway its all looking great man, keep going!

10 mins on that enviro? damn, you making improvements in leaps and bounds son. second one my favourite. the perspective on the space ship does not match up with all the other things in the pic, but great design on it though.

retardedmonkey: hey thanks mucho mike and yea that girl's form is all wonky, actually somebody gave me their sketch and asked how could the pose be spiced up to make it better, don't think i really hit it on that one; and yea i'm going back to looser sketching for chow cuz when i get too tight it comes out looking like even worse crap hehe!

Peetaer: hey thanks man, yea that pic was gonna be first print one i was doing but gonna scrap it, looks wacktastic!

AvisNocturna: thanks Nele, big congratzee on job find!!

some more brain fart, done at 3am so they bit wonky, worked back and forth on these for an hour, wanted to push the second enviro but was getting sleepy eyed at 4am, hehe!

the nike dude is win. send it in to them and demand it be used for advertising xD
love the most recent enviros' they got a much more solid feel to them--more proffesional touch than childish (not that your works were childish before--your' jsut developing the style a lot better)

I was checking out some of your earlier paintings and noticed you tend to use a subtle pink in some form or another in many of them. Cut to the current page and I see the pinks are still there often. There's something about that I really like. I have wanted to play with unsaturated pinks for a while now but could never get my head around how to play with them beyond a sky setup. You've given me something to think on.
