Concept: Skull Pincher
The Skull Pincher lives within a skull to protect it's soft body which has adapted to fit inside. The creature can be found in places such as sacrificial temples, burial grounds and battlefields and preys on any smaller creatures it can find. The Skull Pincher is often mistaken for a spirit of the dead by humans, when they witness the creature skittering across the ground.
Concept: Skull Collector
The Skull Collector is an over sized, prehistoric insect that closely resembles that of an aphid. It's body is not only very soft but it is a bright green that stands out to predators. The Skull Collector was not very fortunate to be blessed with the skin color it got from it's creator but that's fine. This insect will go about carelessly collecting skulls that serve as it's armor, which help it also blend in with its mountaneous terrain. Most Skull Collectors will fold up and hide under the skulls that they have collected on their back. They are also known to take the largest skull that they've collected and wear it on there head as a protective shield/ intimidating helmet. The Skull Collector is a simple life scavenger that is simply just trying to survive in it's life. It is not built to do much more than scavage and hide. This insect is definitely classified as prey. Feel free to prey on this creature as you'd like and keep in mind that it's toxic blood is composed of a chemical similar to cyanide,lol.

Concept: Auricupridian Soldier
Patrolling the tunnels surrounding the Queen's chamber are the soldier class of creatures. These highly aggressive beasts collect and adorn themselves with the skulls from their victims. They were nicknamed the "Skull Collectors" by the 7th Martian Marine division that first encountered them inside Olympus Mons. Unfortunately over half of the division was slaughtered, and their heads taken.
Born of the fourth dimension and used by the tyrant Truellmksganaruxciofe, these beasts are the burden and the brains at the same time, used to collect and transport the skulls of every species and living entity back to their master. Tusks for prying the skulls of the hapless victims, spindly legs for shearing the flesh and other useless matter from the true soul of the being, and the strength to bring down any living thing in any universe. These are the true collectors of history, the true documentors of time and what it has offered for its efforts. Don't worry about seeing them coming. Just worry about when they're done.

Concept: The Atoxlugon
These foul creatures treat the skulls of any and all living beings as legal tender or currency. Some are rare, some are common, some are mint and some are broken, but one race in hell knows enough to set the standard. The Atoxlugon are hell's brokers, bankers and captains of commerce. Some simply hoard skulls in great cavernous vaults, obsessed with collecting more. Some Atoxlugon pride themselves at being afficionados identifying the various types of skulls. They spend many hours of study picking at them with their extra set of forcep-like pincers. And although some atoxlugon will stoop to stealing skulls directly from graves, this is considered rather low-brow by other devils. Every fiend knows the most valuable skulls of all are the ones handed over by the condemned souls themselves.

Concept: Puppet Wyrm
The puppet wyrms are lazy dragon-like creatures roaming the southern mountains. They are scavengers who have evolved to be able to completely avoid confrontations. By keeping skulls from other animals that they find, they can put them on their glowing tails to create frightening puppets that scare away enemies. This was most likely developed so that they would never have to flee, or do anything resembling a physical effort.
As the wyrms grow and get older they manage to lift heavier and heavier skulls. Among some of the older ones this has become a game, and the male with the finest collection of big and rare skulls often becomes the patriarch of the flock.
The laziest ones sometimes use their own grandparents' skulls, but this is somewhat frowned upon in the puppet wyrms’ society.
The skull collector... it picks up every skull, both human and animal, that can be used to incorporate them to his tail, using his saliva as a powerful glue and make them mesh together to be used as an armor and a weapon both to defend himself and to hunt for food. His prays remains will be later incorporated to the referred shell. This creature also replaces old weathered skulls to make his armor even more durable.
Concept: Lego Cranium
The ‘Lego Cranium’ (I collect skulls), are vain creatures. Not only they live of the bones from human and animals, they also expose the skulls on there body. This way the Lego Cranium shows how high he is in his pack.
With his sphere witch he can use for navigation and detecting skulls he locates human or animals. If he found his victim, he will catch it with one of his two catchingarms.
Than he usually will kill his prey with his scissor on the back of his tail.
Fur and flesh he will throw away, only the skulls he uses to feat himself.

Although this creature has some resemblance to both the hermit crab and a tortoise, this primitive creature has its roots in the family of worms. As it is unable to grow its own bones and skeleton and its body is weak and soft, it uses skulls and bones from dead and decayed creatures to cover its body to protect it against predators.
Their lifespan is unknown, but some Skullachaons are found to be over 400 years old. Their size mainly depends on the main skull they carry, which is also a good indicator of their age - the older the Skullachaon, the bigger the skull. Once in a year it sheds its old skull and finds a bigger one so it can grow. They also use the skulls to grant them teeth, as they can't grow their own. Therefore it needs to collect skulls on a constant basis to replace teeth that have fallen out of worn off.
The Skullachaon is mainly found at boneyards where other animals go when they feel they're about to die, much like elephants do in our world. Their main food is dead animals that have just died in the boneyard, but the occasional carrion bird is a welcome change.

The Surflarp (a bad excuse for a sidestep in evolution and the minor breed on the world of Sixten) solved it's problem with it's soft shelled eggs. Prior being the base of nutrition for a great deal of inhabitants now found it's protection inside the cranium of deceased humans. After the coming of man the species has greatly increased it's numbers. This will most likely be the case for some time to come until the natural recourses run out and mankind leaves a drained world alone to find treasures on a new one.

Concept: Cave Hamlet
- A creature that should be long extinked. Although a caring and loving parent for its young, its intelligence level is close to that of a worm. Also due to the fact that it spends its whole life in a dark cave its almost completely blind, and so when the female lays eggs it collects every thing that resembles them and is out of the nest. In most cases round thick skulls because like eggs they contain calcium and taste the same.
Concept: Skull Collector
The inhabits of the remoter islands of the Pacific worship these grand creatures, and believe that it will carry with it their ancestors if they give their skulls in safekeeping. Nourished lavishly on sacrifices and having seemingly no limit to their growth, the chosen of these creatures can rise up to almost gargantuan proportions.

Concept: Swamp skull collector
These gigantic creatures live in dangerous swamps, where they have plenty of chances to come across the remains of a dead creature. The females roll in the bones of the unfortunate victims of the swamp to collect skulls on their spines. Later, they would turn their spikes and rub the skulls off to make their lair, where they would mate and raise their young. It's unclear whether they would actively attack living creatures in order to collect their skulls.

The skull collector stalks the forest canopy in search of prey. When the hunt is on the creature uses its long, strong clawes paws to remove the skull, and then cleans it with its long tongue.

Concept: Death's Ravens
Tales throughout the Caribbean haunt even the most hardened pirate's soul when the mention of "Death's Ravens" find it's way to the campfire. It's been rumored that pirate captains would take any shipmate that might commit mutiny to an isolated island where birds, under orders from death himself, would scratch out their eyes and take their heads to hell.
The truth behind these birds is that they live in the South Pacific on a chain of islands where they feed off of coconuts and bannanas. These animals will use their sharp beaks to carve through the tough shell of a coconut to make their nests. Since there are no other predators near the islands it's perfectly natural that they leave the egges exposed until hatching. This practice is what pirate captains took note of when burying their enemies neck deep in the sand, which naturally gave the bird's their nickname after they began to welcome any sacrifices and use the tough skull's for nesting.

Creature choose one of them and put on to face and then go out for a walk.

How many people told you to watch the humanoid rule? Other than that it really lacked of quality and accuracy...
Your creature doesn't collect skulls...it rips them off. I know that some concepts here are not about collecting skulls as well, but all who get through had the skull as a main part in their stories...(except one, see next note)

Your concept wasn't about skull collecting, but even if i can't see it clear (the image is blurry like photographed from a book) i think you have nice skills and i will accept your entry as a COW-Newbie bonus

I had to edit like 50% of all posts to correct, add or change the format of artistname and concept...Please do it right next time..i know it is hard for artists to use code, but really...CONCENTRATE
I added the reason of rejecting to the deleted entries, so the artists can se why their works were rejected. If further info was required i wrote it in the first post after the entries. When it says "Failed Quality Check" i mean visual quality which can be result of both artistic skill and/or invested time.
i voted Mj0lnir, mainly because i liked the image itself .. though i didnt find his concept as creative as some but, the overall illustration was very nice..nice lighting... but lots of great things in everyones skull collector!!
(next time i guess ill send in a finished one and not a WIP... )
voted for Lander for the fantastic soft feelings and the beautiful colors. It takes some special feat to make such a grim subject eerily colorful

Einen: beautiful colors and great concept. The skull laterns work really well. Love the expression of your creature!
yoitisi: amazing drawing, very solid and believable. Love the hermit crab concept.
Supervlieg: masterfully rendered. My favorite part of your painting is the lighting.
megamax: nice one, a bit flat though. Could use a bit more shadows.
Lege1: Too much saturation in this one. Try to start with less intense colors and work from there.
jfwalls: Great style. The head area is perhaps a bit flat compared to the body.
scorge: Nice design. The top area of the creature works really well. They dont seem to connect with the ground if you know what I mean.
Michael Jaecks: Great style and coloring. The background is a bit distracting because it looks a bit flat, but Im not sure its meant to be a wall painting back there.
Einen: Nice colors and almost pointillistic rendering.
PutridusCor: The design is cool, but im not sure about the back leg anatomy.
ravenslayer: Pretty okay, but I think you could have taken it a bit further with the rendering. Try working on a bigger resolution.
P-Graphix: Nice design, but the rendering comes across as a bit flat. Try some more shadows and try to break up the obvious photoshop brushes for the floor.
yoitisi: Very nice design, it almost got my vote. I think it could have been just a notch more intense if you got rid of the outlines. Im not sure about the proportions of the human skull compared to the big dino skull.
Lander: Nice color palette. I think adding some focus areas would have helped it pop a bit more.
getOut: Very funny concept. I think the colors are a bit over saturated. Especially if he's in a cave. Try working from the darker colors up to the light.
walnut: Nice concept. A bigger picture would have been nice.
Nightblue: The design is nice, but it lacks the frivolity of your previous entry. Keep it up though!
email@example.com: I think you upscaled this quite a bit, and I think it would have been better in the original resolution. Try starting at a bigger res so you can really work in those details.
Stephan_R: Great concepts and colors. I love the design of the little birds. If you had a little more time for rendering it would have been killer.
Mj0lnir: Nice rendering on the creature. The hair and expression is really well done. I like how he conveys emotion by simply holding up a skull to his head. The foreground could have gotten more love though, it looks a bit underdeveloped. And I still think he's missing a finger on the other hand. But these are minor things in a great piece. It got my vote.
christ: Overall nice design, but a little to much blue in my opinion. I think by adding some other hues you could break it up a bit.

Love your colors, technic and the way the light is behind the head of the creature.

I voted for Mj0lnir, what a great atmosphere! Colors are amazing. The whole picture itself is beastyfull!
I voted for scorge, it met both an interesting render and description. There were plenty of amazing renders as always (superV, mjolnir, yoitisi, among others) but most seemed to just put a skull on top of them somewhere Tough round, i struggled trying to think of something clever.
Yoitisi scored my vote, really it came down to the whole package for me - great imagination (as usual), well executed, and realism. I was very impressed.
Other entries passing through my head for the vote were:
Supervlieg: I love your art - full stop. If I could produce work like yours, I would be over the moon, and then some. I loved the colours in your piece, the eyes are simple, yet perfect, the idea was was great, and the execution is nice. Awesome stuff!
Stephen R: Wow I loved your idea a lot! But something held me back from voting for your - i think it was the quality of your final piece in comparison to the others that stood out. I also like how yours has a sense of humour - excellent stuff!

This seemed to me like one of the fastest rounds ever. Maybe I'm caught in some kind of time warp or something. Anyway, even though I try to stay away from the crowds when it comes to voting, Mjolnir you got it. Hilarious story(though brief), awesome image especially his expression. Great job my friend.
Christ, Good start, but there's a big issue with values. Everything looks the same. Don't be afraid to use more intense lights and darks to define form.
SuperV, Awesome as always, the ribs bother me a bit, but the eyes are some of the best I've seen rendered. And yes, I see what you mean about the feet, I only wish you'd mentioned it sooner.
Nightblue, You definitely kicked some serious ass with your first cow(made mine look like crap actually) This one on the other hand looks pretty loose. The detail was there, just needed a lot of refinement.
Lander, Very cool. You've pulled off the transparent look quite nicely and the colors are unreal without being too much. I'm sure Michael Jaeks would approve. I'm glad you added the little details, they add to the interest. Only crit is the blurriness in some areas.
GetoutFeathers are tough. Really hard to understand the anatomy of this guy. Looks like you got a little too focused in some areas and the rest suffered as a result. The feathers on top and on his butt look great though!
YoitisiGreat concept, sweet rendering. Maybe a little overkill on the cracks on the big skull.
P-GraphixNeeds more highlights and shadows, especially to show the back light. Good concept. Very appropriate name.
Ravenslayerdespite the fact this one looks unfinished, the frame really throws it off. The clouds look mighty good though, could have used more of them.
