midknight523: No, I didn't look at any South American stuff. It kind looks that way on accident I guess. I looked at a lot of Greek fashion and researched how it's worn, etc. I wanted something that wasn't just the typical greek tunic, so I went with the shawl/poncho look since it's simple/throw-away and seemed somewhat ritualistic.

Thanks everyone! So it's been a while yet again. Life's been pretty busy. I haven't given up on the Labyrinth, in fact, I finished it. I went to the CTN Animation Expo and included it in a small portfolio booklet I made. I've got some other work I'm scanning/photographing that I'll put up soon.

It's been aaages since i last been here Kiel, my sausage man
Alot of great pictures in here, you've created a great mood in those enviros, which is crucial. Nowdays i see alot of sci fi and fantasy enivromental paintings but in some there's alot of texture effects but they quite don't feel they way they should, you know what i mean? Where's your pictures have this little something about them. Update more often, you have a fan here.

    Ba bye.

Your drawings and concepts are really good O: !
I really enjoyed seeing the process of the greek characters and the minotaur. That painting you did of Theseus and the Minotaur is very good, I love the use of color in it.
The labyrinth is lookind amazing as well!
    Awesome stuff.

    Thanks people!
Icecold: Hmm maybe it's because I'm not good at scifi stuff? I love it though, gotta work on it. It might be that I prefer to paint everything in my paintings, texture and all rather than use a brush to do it for me. It makes it feel much more personalized and has more character imo. The Black Frog does this a lot I think, which might be why his work feels so fresh.

Soooooooo I've started a project to expand the Jacques and the Beanstalk theme in to a video game style world. It's something to work on to add to my portfolio for MFA programs. Anyway, I've started with more dive suits, and it's been super challenging, which is good. I'm trying to take old helmet dive suit imagery and mix it with old tractors, oil cans, water pumps, machinery, etc to make it more fun and colorful. Not so successful yet imo, I want the shapes to be way more simple. Here's the shit:

    Thanks Metal Fingers!
So I'm still working on this underwater project. I established a schedule for the month to get things done. It's taken a bit of a different style direction, kinda cartoony. Lots of bad sketches so far to work through my designs and figure out where I want to go. Just so you know I'm actually doing something, here's a decent sketch of one design that I started painting, still a work in progress. Whatever comments you have would be great!

a la bapsi: hey, thanks for stopping by!
KrispyKream: jeez, everyone likes that drawing for some reason, I just did it because i felt like noodling this shit out of something.
Emyson: thanks, I'll try to keep doing it with this underwater project.

Figure drawing dump! I've had these photographed for a while but never got around to putting them up. There's a few more on my flickr.

    Amazing work Kielbasa.
That little portfolio sketchbook is a great idea. Did you use that as a handout to art directors? Did you make a lot of them?

Keep up the great work man.

Eyecager: thanks! I think the orange looks really nice above water, but below it might be a problem. Oranges and reds are the first colors to disappear at distance underwater, so the reddish orange will probably turn purple/blue i think, making it difficult to see... that's why lots of aquatic stuff is bright neon yellow, its the best color to see at long distances underwater. I just don't think he looks as cool in a neon yellow... still working.

Phatandy: thanks, Yeah I made them to give out to art directors and whoever I thought could use one. I made about 15 of them, and only gave out about 6 at the CTN expo. It was a LOT more work making that book than I anticipated. I spent about 2 straight days(with 6 hours to sleep inbetween) just printing, chopping and binding the damn things. A lot of that time was just fighting the printer to make it do what I wanted. Printing is a nightmare, I don't know why anyone would do it professionally...

    Jeff: thanks, I'm trying!

Here's some more recent dive suits and other doodles. The trees were just a fun shape variety and design exercise. I think its a good way to practice exaggerating shapes and figuring out why certain shapes feel and mean what they mean. It's basic stuff that I have trouble with... I'm still working on that other painting of the suit on the dock, just thought I'd throw these up here in the mean time.

    Thanks Aragah!

So I'm nearly finished on this suit illustration. What do you guys think? I want a little second opinion before I call it finished. I need to get started on other suits and item designs...

Looks good, nice colors and feels very solid. Only thing you might want to check is the perspective on the left doesn't seem to match (higher point of view) with the POV from which we're looking at the figure, though that might just be me. Just my 2ct, keep on rocking.

Mate, your sketchbook is cranking! Keep em coming.

For feedback on your scuba illustration, could he have a bit more slack in his air hose maybe? Or a coil or two in it maybe?

    Its lookin great tho mate!!

very fun image. i would suggest tweaking a few points to get rid of some bad tangents. like where his right hand overlaps his leg at both sides.

keep going, i really dig the work.

Thanks guys, I'll keep that stuff in mind!

In the mean time, here's a study i did since I wanna do a moody, rocky tidal flats scene with wrecked ships at some point.
