I really like the "mass" that you convey through your drawings, you are very skilled with making the forms pop out! The portrait of your gf is really really good. I would recomend that you start doing more things in color, to start learn another dimension because color is alot harder then just black and white and the grades between them. I am there right now ;d so same boat dude!
    Just keep at it!

    How is the Illustration Academy?

That Devil is an interesting take, he looks like such a nice, harmless guy, maybe not very smart or ambitious...hahaha the perfect disguise to lull mortals into his schemes (by which I mean, he's going to try and date your sister).

    Update! Something....

Bludhund: The Illustration Academy was a life changing experience for sure. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in being a professional artist. If you have the means to attend then you should do it. My parents paid for me to go so I'm definitely one of the lucky ones.

Don't worry man, updates will be coming soon! Good to hear from you!

Here's that update I promised. Just something I pulled out of my ass real quick. I figured I'd experiment with basic colors, composition and rendered form.

    Please, give me critiques!

Man, remember how you were saying that you'd like to see those anatomy sections of imagine fx in one issue for easy reference?

Hmm... don't really know what to advise on that last study, since I don't know the effect you're going for. I do think you could be circulating the background colors into the figure a lot more to unify the whole thing, since everything's so bright. For rendering, check out HD Fortress (run by Randis) on facebook, he has a very good tutorial on digital rendering.

Here's a portrait I just finished. It's of an old friend of mine. If anyone knows how to post two images next to one another without having to make it a single image in PS, then that'd be totally awesome.

Man, those 35 min figure sketches are looking really good. They have a nice solid weight and balance in the pose. Were they from imagination?

I'm really digging this "tone and looseness" sketch. Its one of the more atmospheric pieces i've seen you do so far. I'd love to see more of these where you capture an atmosphere.

The portrait is looking good too, nailed that likeness. The only thing i'm seeing that seems off is the jaw line underneath her ear, it seems just slightly too wide to me. (In the photo her jaw line connects in an implied arc with her hairline, and in the painting it connects in an implied line towards the center of her ear)

Man you've come a long way since asheville....great to see all this color. Awesome to watch your progress.

    Keep rockin' it!

PS. Just got my copy of the ImagineFX Anatomy Issue and.... go get that shit. Right now.

You should check out the color theory class I did that streams. Your color use is very rudimentary and you are not going to see major improvement there until you have a better understanding of those things.

    value/temp/saturation
    complimentary color lighting schemes
    color circulation
    color variation
    unified color and lighting

those are areas to dig around in.

Sweet work on those figures man, and very fast too the portrait of your friend looks fantastic dude, dig lighting and rendering, and the likeness is spot-on i think the only issue areas i think are the blue in her eyes and the jacket, both look a bit too saturated imo. i always enjoy my visits to your sb, keep those updates coming man

    Just wanna give some shout-outs:

SixPrism: Thanks buddy! No, the figure sketches were from photos off of the VLP program. Yeah, I glad I got the likeness. Capturing that is essential, it's also the hardest (but painting digitally definitely makes it easier). Thanks for the feedback on her jawline. That was definitely way off. It's weird how you don't notice it when you're working on it. Always a good thing to take a step back before diving back into a piece.

Jason Manley: Thank you so much for dropping by! I will look more into those areas for sure.

Miycko: Good to hear from you again! Thank you so much for your kind words. It has been a pleasure to watch your growth as well.
