Charles Ratteray currently is a Los Angeles based Storyboard Artist, Concept Designer and Illustrator who has been working in the Entertainment Industry for the past 13 years. He uses a graphic novel approach with dynamic lines and anime / realistic characters.
Studying Art in Philadelphia he came to Los Angeles on an internship for special effects to the Academy Award winning Stan Winston Studio and was later hired due to his work ethic. After a few years he decided to branch out into the world of freelance and now works with one of the largest storyboard agencies in the L.A and New York area, Famous Frames. Having the opportunity to work closely with many influential directors such as Spike Lee, David Fincher, David Twohy, Ivan Reitman, and F. Gary Gray he has also worked on many memorable TV shows such as Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and CSI

These were fun...took some storyboard panels and chopped them up into comic book format....kinda cool
THIS IS EXCELLENT WORK! Action in the comic is intense stuff

The style of the storyboard is unique as well, the effect of blur gives more feeling like looking through a lens.

Very very good things in here. Really great, you manage a cool distorsion on the human body, and very cool positions, your storytelling is strong too. I'm glad I came by.

Heres a comic book project that id did many months ago.
I dont usually do this type of crazy detailed ink work...especially to the point where it becomes an uninteligible mass of detail.......shape and composition struggle to be voiced and heard......
but the carnage was just fun as hell to create lol ..the goal was to find graphic ways for people to die by gunfire....
there is a 4 man group of hero characters just laying waste to everything that comes across their sights....
so there you have it
ive included the whole pages and detail inserts so you can really experience the scenes......

Heres a step by step process of a sculpture piece i did called

ASSEMBLING SPACE AND TOOLS
I try to stay organized...most importantly on the initial setup....helps the creative process...have everything laid out....and thought of in advance....i hate needing something and then having to stop the creative flow because i dont have the right tool/s
CUTTING THE CLAY
It helps to have a bountiful selection of the clay needed - at hand and pre cut!!
The MOST important stage of the whole process...if the armature sucks...you will pay for it later....
like life right....strong foundation......
a mistake i might have made which may give me problems later is that i didnt consult with a mold maker in making this armature......for my next pieces that is definitely at the top of the task list....makes everyones job and mine easier in the long run....itll be allright tho...just a bit more work on my end with final assembly ....
i used " fast steel epoxy putty to hold the armature together....love this stuff...sets like rock in 5 minutes!

i used tinfoil for the filler on this one....it helps gauge the big masses and saves clay....which is a good thing seeing as how expensive that stuff is......150.00 bucks for a case of 20 2lb bars......wtf

hey man, just checked your website, like your work but you gotta put some of your fluid sketches from here on to them!, these have got a lot more character to them me thinks :-)
