    creepy trees sketch

Just a preliminary sketch done in illustrator. I'm looking for some composition critiques or whatever else occurs to y'all. Thought I'd get some crits BEFORE I was so far into it to fix anything...

When finished I'm shooting for something similar to Reagan Lodge's stuff, but I want the line work to remain present if not prominent.

I think your main problem with this picture is that it lacks a focal point, your eye moves across the picture trying to find anything apart from trees but theres nothing there, and I think if your going to add something it should be in this area:

You have a good frame set up there to put something in it.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. That's way helpful. I didn't originally want to put anything but trees in there, but I agree that it could use a focal point... I think maybe I'll do something funky to one of the trees, like put scratch marks across it or something...

    Thanks again.

Wul, here's my latest work on this one... one of my friends at home said they thought atmospheric shading would help make it less chaotic... I like where it's going, still trying to avoid the addition of a figure... maybe just a silhouette (or however you spell that...) or the shadow of a figure on one of the trees...

    lemme know what y'all think...

Hey, not sure about the green trees...I think an ominous brown or gray would work better to create more of an atmosphere. ANd I think shading wise it nees a traditional approach...maybe cross hatching to simulate the shadows....hmm hmm...definitely has potential but it needs work!

    approaching finished

Still working on the shadows. They're a bit funky.
