    summer camp branding

no, not the kind where you take molten metal rods to cow hides, you silly! as part of my media internship with the Salvation Army, i'm responsible for all artwork relating to youth and childrens events, camps and various other cool things.

this is something ive come up with for an up and coming childrens adventure camp. they originally had a clipart image of superman and some basic type, but wanted something else. i guess this is that "something else". i started off doing it all vectorised, but then grew bored and decided to paint over most of it. pretty sure i can put this one to bed, but if you see some glaring mistake that has escaped my desensitized eyes, please let me know so i can make changes.

    hope you enjoy

Rainbow hair is awesome, and that kid looks like he's having the time of his life! I'd like to see some more kids with rainbow hair in this though. So you knownyou're not having fun by yourself

Biggest problem for me is that the fully rendered style on the arms and legs is not consistant with the flatter style of the head. The way you've got it now it looks like a normal boy whose head has been cut off and replaced by a cartoon head. I think you need to pick one or the other.

Also I think the 'no neck' would work if everything else was cartoonier.

i totally agree with nathan. if you eased up on the rendering and had fewer value changes then it would help im thinkin. for a start anyway. personally id love to see the purely vectored version as the vector parts are what i like the most here. the face is great but with the other rendering it makes this rather creepy neat image tho!

my parents are salvation army officers and give it their approval

i gotta agree with the crit about the contrast between the head and hands, but to be honest wit you mate having witnessed alot of kids graphics for the sally army, this is probably way above what they were expecting anyway.

I think it looks great, and having been a counselor at Salvation Army camps for a number of years it is head and shoulders above what we usually have, I am sure they will be thrilled. At first I didn't agree with the contrast between the styles but after looking at it for a few mins I think I agree now, if the body was more along the same lines as the head or vice versa it would be better. Although saying that I am not sure I would thought of that if it hadn't been brought up by someone else.

thanks a lot, guys, its been good to gain some insight from artistic others from the Army too i'll run this version by the kid's department and see what they say - i'll point out that some have seen the mix of rendering styles here a bit problematic, and let them know i can change it if they see fit. think it really comes down to whether they want to get this and other related propaganda out now as opposed to a bit later. thanks again guys, i'm glad its been received this way
