Ha! The sight of El Coro's painting in the morning. It so good it hurt. I'm really missing not living next to the shooting gallery, so I could see your work live on a regular basis. Really dig the self portrait and the two heads over and under it. I can smell the paint just looking at those.
Realy awsome alround SB! I especialy enjoy your oil head studies, for some reason your brushwork and confident color choice reminds me a bit of Lucian Freuds stuff.

hey guys!! so i finally got a chance here to post a few new things, and to answer some of your questions and comments..
hurricane: yeah man the older i get the less i feel inclined to spend my spare time rendering. im finding that i quite enjoy a more impressionistic approach from time to time. its a ncie way to step out of the renderbattle that is concept art, and examine things with a fresh, more playful eye. not that i dont like to paint form, i suppose when im not working on commercail work all the time i might find more of an interest in doing the tighter stuff in the off hours... hope yer good bud.
stalsby: i was just talkign to one of my friends about maybe going out and doing some aerosol sometime soon. we'll see....
D@niel: thanks alot man. you know, i have had people say that before. dunno why really. i think perhaps because we are both fairly heavy handed painters.

Vhan Juju: thanks man. i wouldnt say mechanical design is my strongest point, but my father was a mechanic, and i was raised just off a military base, so both of those things are elements i had around as a kid. i just try to make my shit believable. thats the MB motto thanks for looking!
Chromosome: thanks man. i paint with a lot of linseed oil and have gotten in the habit of using longer brushes as well lately. i liek the effect if gives! hope yer well dude.
Pau1Winslow: hey thanks Paul. ill keep updating as long as people keep lookin . the blurred stuff in my book is client notes. my sketchbooks are filled with all kinds of unintelligible notes, but sometimes they pertain to super secret stuff that i need to make sure i dont leak. cant ever be too careful!

oishiiniku: haha thanks bro. yeah the toy i designed last year for a series done by a store called upperplayground. dave choe, sam flores, jeremy fish, and myself all created toys for it. it was alot of fun to do, and very satisfying to see your shit made into an actual toy in the end. you, by the way have been doing some absolutely brilliant stuff lately sir. keep up the great work!!!

so lastly, i figured i'd update this thread with some new studies. again the portraits are all from life, usually painted in about 2 hours. ive also included a few drawings too. sometimes if i paint fast enough i can squeeze in a quick drawing. these are all hacked in pretty quickly usually in around 30 minutes. also included is a drawing of an alien penis, and a weapon concept for a vagisword, a shord blade that is stored in a womans vagina. dont ask.

damn....i just crapped my pants! awesome update man! just out of curiosity though how long did most of those oils take? did you usually do an underpainting for those? layers? moleskine stuff are a damn nice treat to look at at too

Always amazing to see some your new oilportraits! Really impressive how you manage to put the paint down on the canvas in such thick layers without getting all muddy. Impressive style, Impressive skintones, whew, your stuff gives me all that nice and happy feelings, thanks a lot
Fantastic portraits. It makes me want to paint traditionally some stuff too (but all I have is box with gouache paint )
Recently I was reading some interview with one european comic artist that I always admired. There was some question related to his loose drawing style he answered that he just hates perfection and there is nothing more boring in art. He also said that art should give pleasure and perfection doesn't do that so he sometimes intentionally leaves drawings a bit rough.the older i get the less i feel inclined to spend my spare time rendering. im finding that i quite enjoy a more impressionistic approach from time to time. its a ncie way to step out of the renderbattle that is concept art, and examine things with a fresh, more playful eye.
That was small surprise for me but I guess after maybe 50 years of experience in drawing he gets so accurate that he wants to keep it exciting and make some mistakes again. Maybe it's the same happening with your art and it's another stage in progress .

On the finish/impressionistic comment... do you really feel that way in oil painting too? Have you ever tried form painting?
I would love to see you tackle a painting like that. Carefully placing each brushmark and then leaving it, rounding up into the light,
no blocking-in or massing in tones or colours. I personally feel it's one of the most challenging things.
