DSG 1302: Creature: LEATHERY WHITE-SKINNED, EYELESS, FLYING PREDATOR ON ITS PERCH

    [ I'm imagining something vaguely pterodactylian. ]

    [ It need not be all-white... ]

[ You can include some colour here and there as seems fitting to your creation, but keep it primarily white. ]

[ ...For example, perhaps its talons are darkly-stained from the blood of its victims. ]

[ ...Or maybe its bluish veins show through here and there. ]

[ You get the idea. ]

[ The perch itself need not be well-defined, as the main focus here is on the (most likely) frightening beast. ]

I'm all new to digital painting, got my tablet yesterday, and thought I'd have a try, though I hadn't time to finish it.

I didn't get to the perch-part, it's nostrils not eyes, and it IS white. It's just dirty ^^

    Practise makes perfect!

He isnt all white but I hope its ok, also I gave him eyes but thought it'd be cool to make em grey so he is sightless so might as well be eyeless yeah?

Great to get out of university and have a bit more time to myself again.
Knocked this one out real quick, not great and not too original, but the practice was good.

Some great designs so far, particularly Katsura and asbestos.
He might not fit the instructions exactly airrunkle, but I'm likin' it.

first time entering this thread, but thought id give it a go, not to sure about the style, very alien and loose to my normal stuff. reasons why the background colours?, basicly im thinking if he's white and blind, then the creature more than likely is built for very dark, posibly black conditions like a cave, leather skins= harsh conditions, so i guess you could think of him very suitable for living in hell or something similer, deep cave system, only light source being that from lava, hence the leather like skin for protection. Couldn't imagine what he would eat though, probably canibalistic.

@Eurayo i love ya scetch, nice colours. I imagine he is listen up for some victims.....great!

@Katsura This is really GREAT but i think his Mouth fits better in a dark blue, or something.

I wasn't going to post this, but I changed my mind after looking through the last five or six DSGs again.

It seems a good many people are missing the point of DSG entirely.

    It's concept art practice.

It's not 'learn to draw time' or 'do something half-assed, your way, and ignore the topic'. It's expected that you have a decent grasp of artistic foundations and know how to act (and follow instructions) as a professional would, regardless of your level.

Mr. Hand is nice enough to not only post a topic in his free time, but to actually steer everyone in a particular direction, give a little more insight into what should be produced. I think he deserves a medal for continuing to do so in the face of all this.

What he does is exactly the kind of clarity and description I'd want from a contractor.

If you just drew whatever you felt like anyway, regardless of what a client asked for, I can guarantee you wouldn't be hired again. And it's kind of useless to say, "Oh, this isn't actually in the industry, it's practice."

Sure, but if you can't focus now, what makes you think that should you get an industry job, [that's a shockingly big 'if' for everyone] you'll automatically drop all your bad habits and laxness and magically put 100% focus and 100% effort into what your customers want instead of what you feel like drawing.

    You won't, it's that simple.

The DSG thread of today is a far, far cry from what was going down when it first started. It's no mystery why the big names of CA stopped participating in this- most participants don't care, or put 110% effort in to any aspect of it.

    My $0.02.

About and hour or two in photoshop.

It might be terrifying in the future, but now it's just a baby.
