    Dan Man's Scrupcious Sketchbook!

Well, I guess it was inevitable that I would start one.

I plan to not show any previous work on here though, as I will use this as a catalogue of the work I've done since I joined CA.

So be warned, there may not be a lot here to begin with, but I will push myself to at least get 2 sketches in here a week. Nuff blabbing though....

Nothing Special on the whole really, but that's why I'm here to improve. Comments & Criticism is greatly appreciated as always!!!

OH, and if anyone is attending the Seattle Workshop, let me know! I'd love to meet ya there

    Thanks for stopping by!

Really cool stuff, but its too cartoon for my personal tastes. I would really love to see some realism, just to see what you can do with that.

Your linework is nice but its way to.... um. Predictable seems to come to mind. Idk. I remember Marko Djurdjevic saying that having more random lines make it more interesting, and I'm not saying that yours a bland, but their right on the edge of looking perfect to me.

Sorry... I'm a vague confusing bastard.

    you have a wonderful imagination
maybe you could try to add some colour?

you're varying the weight of your line work which is good, experiment more with that.

you've got a good style going on here already.

    great start. i'm watching you

Krigbann: haha thank you sir. I agree, I should dabble more in the real world and perhaps get some of it posted on here. I understand what you mean though. I can assure you though, that when I DO do realistic drawings, they are far more loose and free than these sketches.

Thanks again though for stopping by. I always appreciate the input.

saamsaa: Thank you for stopping by and thank you for your kind words. I do plan to add colour to some of these, I just need to find the time and stop making excuses nto to I agree with the line value comment though. I am trying to take that into consideration more often when I begin a piece.

Thanks again though for stopping by and I look forward to hearing more back from you again

Thanks for dropping by my sketchbook! I'm liking your style, you draw with really clean shapes and lines. I can imagine them being animated. As aforementioned it would be nice to see some more realistic stuff, but I really can't talk as far as that department's concerned.

I see you do some DSG work too. I haven't tried taking part myself, but it looks like good fun, I might try it.

    Hi Dan Man

Thanks for the kind words... you flatter me.

Throw some value into some of these characters to flesh them out in the round. I could totally see some of these characters in a video game somewhere... the style is a little reminiscent of something like Jak and Daxter, or Ratchet and Clank. Keep it up, always practice, and you will go far.

Oh, and btw, 2 sketches a week is no where near enough. You should shoot for one or two sketches a day. (I may not follow that rule myself, but it will help you greatly)

    Good luck.

Hey dan, thanks for commenting my sketchbook!

Your lines are nice and clean, but how about trying out some value studies? Study how light falls on round and square forms and how you would be able to apply that knowledge to the lines in your drawings to make them appear 3d instead of just flat lines

Nice sketches. They are simple, pretty clean and interesting. It could be nice to see something with a little more time worked on, with more details and stuff. If you are into doing more advanced. I liked the ape dude, and the poor robot in your last update. Keep on posting mate!

joaKimArt & dadushin: thanks I can totally see where both of you are coming from in regards to more realism and detail to me work....I'm just always afraid to add too much to a piece and end up making it look like crap. I think I should definitely practive more at it though Thanks again

wow i like your stuff a lot, i like your style and imagination, anyway i just have to ask you something. Why do you always draw in blue? It looks cool and everything but is it not harder to erase with it?

have any time please stop by my sketchbook

Nice work. I can see improvement between the first and latest pieces. More expressive, and solid. Looking forward to more.

    ...which is only my opinion.

lacadam: thanks for stopping by and to answer your question: I picked up on the blue pencil during college. I studied animation and found it great for layout and rough sketching before finally putting a lead pencil to the page. I find the blue is just light enough to allow very rough layout of form for a drawing, without hindering the final image. As for erasing, I've never had a huge problem with it. I start off with fairly light markings, so erasing those are no problems. I usually just use the eraser on the end of the pencil anyways oh, and as an added bonus if copies are required of the final image, the blue does not show up on a photocopier

Vermis: Thanks for the feedback. And looking back, yeah, I do see some improvement as well.....still plenty of room for more though!

Liking what I'm seeing so far, but like all things, you can push it to a higher level. Keep it up!

You mentioned you studied animation. Where at exactly? Are you still studying and or looking to animation as a career?

Thanks! Oh I'm definitely trying to push myself more, and hopefully attending Revelations will give me a swift kick in the ass

I studied computer animation up here in great white Canada. The college I went to was Durham College in Oshawa, Ontario. It was just a community college that was close, but hey, I now have a job in Niagara Falls working on a children's show so it can't be too bad

Good work so far, but let's see some more! yeah, you're busy.... but don't be afraid to do 2 minute sketches, they may look like crap but at least you'll be improving your skills. Like your style. Open up and try more different things; if this is what you love, stick with it, but also try different styles, maybe some realism, environments, just goof around!
