    Quake3 levels

    Hello everybody!

Here are some screenshots from levels I made for Quake3 game. I think it's proper place to post them....Level named "East Berlin Roofs", I created all geometry from the scratch, new skybox and alll-new textures. Also my brother writed great new soundtrack. If you have Quake3 installed, you can download pk3 file here:

    http://planetquake.gamespy.com/View....Detail&id=2248

(just put it into "baseq3" folder to work, then goto multiplayer->create server->deathmatch-> select "zih_roof")

I tried to add post-war feeling to level, but I cannot resist to put Brezhnev's portrait on the billboard ( he was U.S.S.R. president in the 70th, but he is just looks great )

    Tools used: GTKRadiant, Photoshop, 3dMax.

    Smile :d :d :d

Gawrsh. Somebody who still plays/mods Quake 3! I've been playing since I was like, 7 years old... I heart that game... I've never attempted to mod it, but I loooove downloading maps and models and what not. Yayyy. You rule! The last web site I looked at hadn't been added to since the 90s, so I'm relieved that I'm not the only person still addicted to that game.

    ^_^

    Totally awesome looking map, btw.

Hey! I'm not a living dinosaurus or something like that www.lvlworld.com ( resource devoted to Q3 mapping) had shut down Doom3 and Quake4 sections "due to low activity", but Q3 maps still released each month. And of course, I'm continue on the new level called "Unholy Formula"

I always wanted to ask a mapper this.
for example all quake 3 maps have fairly blurry textures, but do they have to be? for example for your map can't you use a really high rez texture? or older game engines compress the files really hard and make good textures look crappy?

Most original q3 texture are 256x256 pixels, they are filtered ( not blurred) by OpenGL-compatible hardware to eliminate crisp edges between pixels. For q3, we can easily made textures 1024x1024... But there are lot of textures for each map and we are limited by onboard video card memory.

BTW, check out your in-game settings - you may have your texture quality reduced. Set quality to maximum

no no, i havent played quake in ages, i meant for example why do maps for old games still have to use low res textures?
i can understand why low res textures were used when the games were released, since video cards werent that good at the time, but now, why cant you take huge textures, like half life 2's, and use those for example? Does open gl require you to compress then to 256x256?
