    Weets SketchBook

    Hey guys,

I'm a 17 year old bloke from Australia who's just finished high school ( About a week ago ). I still have 4 exams till I'm completely finished though so until then I probably wont have a whole lot of new work up.

Right now I'm interested in lots of different fields eg. 3d, concept art, traditional, programming etc. I found this website and I had to sign up So far the quality of work and criticism here is exceptional! Hopefully I can learn from everyone and further my skills.

I've always been creative and interested in art. Though, in the last few years I've gotten interested in games programming and this is what I am hopefully pursuing at university next year ( Hope I get in first try! ).

I'll try and keep this sketchbook updated regularly and post mostly only digital paintings/drawings/studies.

And feel free to suggest me to draw or paint something! Sometimes I sit there wondering what to draw

I hope to improve these things:
    - Digital painting overall
    - Environmental design/painting
    - Figure drawing and character design

    deviantArt Account: http://ssjjackass.deviantart.com

First one is a character concept and the second one is some hand studies I did tonight from real life, using my left hand as a model

I was messing around with some environment sketches and creating a mood in the image. This is the ruins of an underwater society.

I took the advice that someone posted in the critique forum about the background on my character concept.

So heres the revised image. I think it's a definite improvement.

Decided to knock some anatomy sketches out before I go to bed. I've never actually studied anatomy ( Yet, Maybe later/soon ) and while I can get most poses and details just from experience I have trouble in some places.

I've also just started doodling with my tablet lately, Never really drawn anything with it before. At first it feels a bit awkward but I'm starting to like it more and more.

Oh and you get to see my horrible hand writing, I got "LEGIBILITY" written on one of my english exams >.>

    Comments are appreciated.

Hey weets, welcome to ca.org, you have just entered a new phase in your artistic life, believe me, there is so much good advice and good will here, that you cant help but get infected by it. :-)

I really like your ink stuff, prob cos it has a string outline and a definite shape? The anatomy needs a little work and prob a few excercises in line flow, weight, control and feeling will be on your agenda next, no?

Any ways dude, keep up the good work and keep posting it :-)

Yeah my anatomy definitely needs work! I will start doing some proper anatomy studies soon. Anyone know some good exercises to work on my line flow etc?

Quick barbarian sketch that I'm not going to finish, I'm not very happy with it mainly because the perspective is a bit messed up and stuff. Ah well might as well chuck it in here.

the mood coming from that underwater- pic: its the pic that speaks most to me of your work here.
id like to see more of this!

though the second version of your soldier concept is really cool too.

Hi Weetbix! Definitely a great step getting a sketchbook here! You've a nice start here, and it's definitely good to see you working from life and doing some anatomy studies. You might find it helpful with anatomy to do some longer, more detailed pieces alongside the quicker stuff, I found the quick stuff helped me keep things like proportions in check, but it was doing the more detailed drawings that made it really stick. Copying some of the old master's works is always a great way to learn too, if you don't want to copy from straight anatomy books all the time. One thing I noticed with the portrait you did was you seem to be painting things in the colour you think they are (so skin is skin coloured, teeth are white, etc) whereas skin especially is made up of all kinda of colours you might not expect.. purples and greens in subtles doses of course!

Other than those points, you certainly seem to be on the right tracks. And thanks for dropping by my own thread, much appreciated.

Great costume on the barbarian, the one thing I'm concerned about is that his arms look a little wimpy compared to his torso. I love the robot, robots are tough to draw (for me)

Oh, and ditto on Zephyri's crit! (which is advice I should follow also)
