i love the first and the last picture of your second post... the first has a very interesting and dynamic construction, the last ist beautifully colored (i suck at watercolors, too impatient ^^).

the landscapes seem to fall apart for me. i'd wish less empty space and less difference in the direction of the strokes.

your study drawings have a dark mood, that differs much from the style of the rest of your work. I'd appreciate to see a few pictures in that cartoon- style, but in just that other, dark mood, for more variety.

Thanks for the advice, I've actually never really realized how most of my cartoonish drawings all have a more upbeat tone. Definitely plan to update with more variety in mood, and get in some more landscape work.

Here's some more though from my sketch books and some digital doodles till I can update with those improvements.

Man, your stuff kicks ass! I also love your wide range of style - a nice mix of real life and cartoons. Also, the lighting on that first picture - just stunning.

You got nice stuff going on in here. Your cartoon style is very lively. Like somebody said early, very different from your life drawings! Gotta watch out in your anatomy, in which some of your drawings are off. Remember the proportions of the body, that's the key to all. To memorize it, a good way is to do studies such as skeleton and muscles.
Anyways good stuff in here, since you are an animation major, I would love to see some of your 3d stuff because I have been doing 3d too! Well, keep it up!

: Thanks glad you're liking my stuff

Maestro Andres : Believe it or not I actually don't have much in the way of 3d animation. I took the basic course for 3d to understand the fundamentals and the lingo that comes with 3d animation, but the facilities here are not so great, lightwave and flash, thats about it. I have a focus more on traditional animation as the direction for that here is extremely strong. I have though played around with zbrush a little; I'll try and post some models as I get to know the program better. But yea I see what you mean on the anatomy ^_^ definitely need to keep watching out for that, need to do more hand studies for sure.

While I'm here though, heres a couple sketches of my fellow animation classmates, a digital doodle, and pastel study from a class still life.

sinister's side of rainbow, its really hard to use all those pure colors & you have done it neatly, in earthbender010, the belly is acting odd and distracting, make it more subtle and soft

You use color rather wonderfully. Your figure drawings need to be tightened up a bit. The tonal qualities are there, but they look a little sketchy as opposed to an academic finished drawing. Try working on your quality of line. Your color work uses bold colors and bold, uniformed strokes. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the wonderful comments! Really love the suggestions and am working on them. I'll try and get the scans in soon, my life lately has been consumed with animation. I'm in my final year as an animation major and really am trying to get a really good animation ready for the winter festival. So I won't be sleeping till winter break. But here are a few things that I have and I'll get most recent stuff scanned sometime after I finish working on my animation tonight.

Your faces could benefit from more construction. Right now they're somewhat lopsided and wonky. I'd recomend you do some more portrait work and study facial anatomy before attempting this anime style.

These are looking very nice Michelle...definetly miss drawing with you in the Boro. I think the fluidity of your pieces is what keeps me looking. Very powerful lines and a weird concept/animationmajor/fashiondesign style. Truly a gift to have a range of areas!

    Long time no see

Well been on hiatus for a long while, mostly due do particular life events and final semester college type things. But one more month and that degree is mine! Here are a few sketches as of late and also linked to two of my animations I'm working on. Love any kind of comments or suggestions!

A master study of Vermeer "Young Woman With a Water pitcher" in oils. This was a two week/ 4 class period study so I haven't gotten the chance to really get into the cloth of the table the map tapestry like the original.

Study done in corel (soft vine charcoal brush) of an old woman. Been working on life studies to get better with painting via computer.

    Random character design

Drawing done for our weekly campus "Bad Movie Night" poster. This week we have playing "Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter"

These are a few sketches for a friend and a project shes working on

This is done for a game sage buddy of mine in Dream of Mirror online. Hes the short guy and the female is his girlfriend

    current animations
This is an animation thats gonna be played while the Erie philharmonic is preforming. I'm one of four animators working on this and we each have a section of the piece. It's all painted in Corel and still a work in progress -_- can not wait to be finished.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFlDIbjGBbM

And this one is painted via computer as well and is a work in progress for my advance animation class.

More to come and let me know if these pics are too big. Thanks for looking

Thanks for the reply in my sketchbook. You have some very nice character designs there , sinister's side of rainbow is a great concept and well chosen colours, the mousegirl is cute. I'll check out later your animations, i'm always interested in animation in general.

hi teadrinker, lovin the work in particular the life drawings and cartoons which i think are brush pen? im using those but their too expensive for a full range, anyways really like your life drawings and they all seem pretty accurate to me but I think you could work on a couple for a bit longer just to give them a bit more punch, especially the woman next to the lamp. something seems to be missin from it that i cant quite put my finger on, maybe just a little bit more line work other than that their pretty tight.

Nice sketchbook, you've got a lot of variety in here. Good life drawings, too. I would say overall, try to pay more attention to proportion. Some of your figures are looking mushy. Try blocking out a simple skeleton gesture first that establishes where the joints and bones are in relation to each other.

    Hey there!

I really enjoyed looking at what you have going on here. The progression since just last November is very impressive. I especially liked the figure drawings in your last post. The forshortening and movement are excellent, and your line quality on the blacklines is superb.

I agree with KelsM about paying attention to proportions in your figures, but that sort of general advice is something we can all use. In particular, watch out for faces. Consistantly I noticed very long noses and low mouths. Fine for monkeys, not for people. A general proportional rule is that the eyes fall halfway down the head. The bottom of the nose is halfway between the eyes and the chin. the mouth is halfway between the bottom of the nose and the chin. Just shortening up your nose a bit, and raising the mouths will help a lot.

You're doing some great work, and I really do look forward to seeing more of it.
    Keep at it!

KelsM Nice sketchbook......try to pay more attention to proportion. Some of your figures are looking mushy. Try blocking out a simple skeleton gesture first that establishes where the joints and bones are in relation to each other.
You know I really haven't thought much of it but I think I really don't put enough thought into the mechanics of many of my subjects. I will definitely be doing a good amount of more studies with more thought process behind the relationships between joints and bones. Thanks for the comment and suggestions

    kingcoyote Hey there!

I really enjoyed looking at what you have going on here.......I agree with KelsM about paying attention to proportions in your figures, but that sort of general advice is something we can all use.

    Keep at it!

I think I'm having some old habits that don't wanna die lol but I totally agree. Faces tend to be a weaker point in my drawing knowledge too. I really hope after these few weeks are over I plan to do a ton of facial studies. I really appreciate this input

Been super busy lately as this is the two week crunch line for my animations as one is due finished by Monday and the other by next Friday. My life has become class, eat, sleep, and animate pld:

The first one is just a sketch I did the other day in art history and the other was a concept for the Shapeshifter CHOW but didn't get the time to go further on it. I plan to go further though once I get some time. I was going with a woman assassin to hawk type of thing. Oh and I posted my current update on my animation that is due Monday. A little info behind this is it's one part of four parts. I'm part 3, and this will be compiled with the other parts and played to a live orchestra (erie philharmonic). It's all painted in corel, each frame file named, compiled in monkey jam (an animation program) then edited together in windows movie maker, and all on one laptop there seems to be a lag issue in some parts that we can not figure out so I will be recompiling everything tomorrow in aftereffects as we think it's a rendering issue with windows movie maker. all comments and thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
