    Clay Casting

Can anyone recommend the best Clay I can use to cast in a mold?

It seems I saw a video at a friends where Mark Alfrey recommended W.E.D. clay for that purpose - but I'm not sure. Preferably I want a clay I can melt down (or soften) and push into a mold and let firm up. My goal is to pull it from the mold, and then modify the sculpture into something else.

I appreciate any advice you might share.

    Thumbs up

Hello, I'd like to suggest Chavant NSP (Non Sulpher Plastilene) It comes in three grades: soft, medium and hard and is green in colour. You can melt it down or freeze it even because it's an oil based clay so it's a very nice material to use and will never ever dry out. You can also get Chavant Le Beau Touche, which is terracotta in colour and has a more finer quality because it contains wax, so the smoothing quality is that much nicer to use. Chavant come sin 2lb blocks, and is pretty affordable. I dunno whereabouts you are in the world but they do sell it both in the UK and the USA. The shop where I get it from is: http://www.tiranti.co.uk/index.asp

I hope this has helped you! Anyway, good luck mate and looking forward to seeing your work/s.
