    skrubbles' sketchbook

Time for me to start a new sketchbook. I'd revive my old one, but all the images are broken anyway.

Short Introduction: I work as a 3D Character Artist for the game industry. I have nearly ten titles under my belt. I few years ago I had to make a decision to focus on my drawing or my 3D. I chose 3D because I knew I would be able to get a job quicker and I was seriously in need of a job upgrade (from working at McDonalds). I accomplished what I wanted, but I need to focus on my art again. So now I'm back! Trying to work on the things I've been neglecting for too long. I'm not going to ignore this stuff any longer! Booyah!!

I'm going to try to update this thread on a regular basis. If you see me slacking give me a swift kick to the face!!

I've been trying to do speedpaints more often. I'm mainly doing them to get better at my color and lights without that nasty color-picker getting in the way. Here's a quick landscape and portrait.

The Seattle Sketchgroup is doing a mini-tdome. While I was working on some thumbnails I made something I thought was cool, but didn't fit the topic at all. I had to size it up and play with it a bit more anyway.

I particularly like the way you've handled this http://conceptart.org/forums/attachm...1&d=1193438447 , but the hand could use a little more work, I think (says somebody who's crap at drawing hands), and the nose-to-mouth lines are a little too sharp and dark. Over all, though, I really like it.

I love the portrait. The skin texture and detail is really fantastic. I think maybe a little more hue variation in the white cloth around his face would be nice. I'm curious to see how the second figure develops, the silhouette looks good so far.

alesoun - Thanks. I agree that the hand needs work (amongst other areas). I have excuses though!!! Unfortunately they won't help me become a better artist. I really just need to practice practice practice.

Bojee - Thanks buddy I'm going to try and be a little more active in my sketchbook this time around.

KPetrasko - Thank you. The creature doodle most likely won't develope any further then what you see above. It was just an accident while working on another creature design. I just thought it looked cool and wanted to post it.

Here's some poses I sketched at last night's Seattle Sketchgroup meet-up.

Camara - Thanks This thread is mainly for my 2d artistic growth. All the 3d stuff on my site is pretty old and most of my highpoly nextgen work is still under NDA so I can't post 'em anyway.

    Here's another speedpaint...

A quick lil character speedpaint... I think I may spend some more time on him later to fix the flaws and add more detail.

I like where the color is going on this last one.

    Bojee - Thank you

    Alesoun - Thanks!

Been busy busy busy lately. I've been looking at getting back into a studio instead of freelancing... I becoming too much of a hermit and miss having coworkers. So on top of my work I've had art tests and interviews. Anyway, I should have a bit more freetime on my hands now... especially if I'm hired for an in house position somewhere. The thing that sucks about working from home is that I'm always at work.

As I mentioned in a previous post, the Seattle sketch group is doing a mini-tdome. The topic is "Amphibious Rodent Steampunk." Here's the thumb and the lineart I have so far. Need to clean it up and throw some colors on it. I was using a hoping mouse for ref. So that along with the frog (the heaving lower-jaw area) which also hops, I decided that the steampunk should affect the hoping. I know the gear placement doesn't make much sense, but honestly a lot of concept design for robotics in games/movies would never really work they way they're depicted... as long as it looks cool. So hopefully this looks cool enough.

Oh yeah. I've known about this homebrew application for the DS called Colors! for a while now. I believe there's even a thread for it on this forum somewhere. Anyway, I just bought a new crimson/black DS Lite mainly because I want to get Colors! on it and have a small portable tablet PC! I can't wait for my R4 cartridge to arrive in the mail so I can play around with this program. Then I can do speedpaints whenever I feel like it!!!! MWAHAHAHAHA!!
