    errr gothic elf... pls help

    hey

This picture is the first of a new portfolio i'm going to try to build. its a fair way off yet (in parts) but if anyone could give me crits it would be greatly appriciated.

i was thinking of detailing the bow with glowing blue gems/eyes and possibly glowing bowstrings, to add some colour and depth via the reflections in the metal.

pls let me know what you think...

No crits yet but I like her mouth and her expression. Her outfit looks pretty awesome too!

You should pay more attention to the color of both highlights and shadows in your painting. using white highlights and black shadows really tend to wash all the life out of a picture and turn all the colors into chalk. Just as an exercise I would suggest taking what you have already and overpainting the highlights with a light yellow tone and some of the shadows with a slightly bluish purple tone.

The character has a great expression and pose, but the colors are just keeping it from having all the life it should.

it's really nice what you have so far. I love the clothes, especially the jaggedness of her legs.
I have a couple of crits though. for one I think this would definitely benefit from a background tone, right now the white is kinda vibrant against the figure which is pretty subdued, color-wise. i'm thinking a gray blue. also it could be me but I feel it gets a little busy, particularly the quiver/left wrist. maybe I would simplify the quiver where it falls under the wrist with a flat dark gray to make the wrist more distinct and pop out. and one last thing, i think you could darken the underplane of her nose, same value as with her neck shadow. hope this helps.

Looks real cool! I like this style.
But I'd also vote for more background. To me the graphical element on the left of her head is a bit distracting. I'm viewing this on a kind of bright screen, so right now her nose is pretty undefined. I also think she's just alittle crosseyed. Hope you don't mind me doing a paintover .
I put in some quick background ... but don't really know if that's an improvement or a style that you're going for. I also made the eyes a little less wide.
    Hope this helps a little.

thanks guys all great crits, i will try to impliment all of them and repost.

double thanks to digitallydumbfounded for the paintover, i like how you changed the eyes.

it makes the pose a bit more beleivable if she is targeting something that way as well. thanks.
