Something Witty That Will make you Want to Look at My Sketchbook

Hello All. This is my second attempt at a sketchbook and hopefully I have improved. Ive had 2 semesters of art classes and next year I hopefully will be moving to Amsterdam and going to Art School there. Let me know what you think.

This took about 45 minutes. First time Ive drawn really detailed in a while.

Real dang early in the morning.

Still working on this one. Sorry about the glare. Hopefully you know the picture that this is ref-ed from.

Real quick and sloppy life drawings. Probably 30 seconds or less on each.

I will put up some paintings here in a second.

    C & C more than welcome!

    new sketches 11.05.07

Hello again. I'm doing some studies for a painting series that I'm going to do. They're going to be giant polaroids of my childhood. I'm excited to paint them and want them to be stellar so off to more studies.

Also, I'm trying to teach myself anatomy (again) and drawing technically. Spheres are hard. I'm also trying to improve my confidence in my line. Hopefully progress will come.

    Recent work -- Oil paintings

Here is some of the recent work that I've been doing. The first two are my mini-series about Autumn, and the last one is my current work that I've been commissioned to do for my church in a series of paintings about Jesus from an Old Testament perspective. Any comments or criticisms are welcome, I don't have artistic people around me anymore so I need any help I can get.

Hi journeyman10. Your stuff here looks good. Your paintings are really playful, and your not afraid of color, which is great. I'm curious what medium your using. I'm assuming oils but I couldn't tell for sure. I like your portraits to, but you need to get your hands on a skull and draw it six thousand times. Your figures, too, are in need of some anatomy study. People used to push anatomy on me all the time and I shrugged it off, but I've been studying for a while and I'm amazed by the dramatic improvement in my figures. Find a copy of Loomis on the internet or head to the bookstore and pick up Atlas of Anatomy for the Artist by Peck. Peck's book is full of little sketches he did, like doodles in the margin, that show how stuff goes together and contains little tricks for remembering landmarks. I've only had mine for a year and I've nearly worn through it already.

Oh... and put your camera on something stable when taking pictures of paintings, lol.

Keep it up, things look great so far.
