m new on here, but have been a long time prowler, and thought i should upload a few of my things. they arent that good, but ide still like to share um. a few of these i redrew off this site.
i really like the first three images, they all have strong compositions. i would say to work on your anatomy, something it already looks like you are doing so keep that up. study from books like hogarth and bridgman. take photos of your friends and have them pose for you, use a mirror. dont be afraid/ashamed to copy master work (as long as its for personal study). keep up the good work.

Also here is a good outlook on referance photos (which i use all the time)
Either way it is easy to get carried away with color. i use a huge variety of color in my paintings just for the skin but they all have very close tonal values. you should play with tones more and not so much color. maybe start with a black and white version then try to color it? It is easy to see the tonal shifts in black and white but very hard to see that in color."Reference photos have their place, and a very useful spot it is too. Ever since photography was invented painters have used photos as an aid to their painting. But the emphasis must be on "reference", as in "refer to", not as in "copy every detail". Don't slavishly copy only one photo, use it as a starting point. Ideally use a whole bunch of reference photos. At some stage, put the photos aside and let the painting take on a life of its own. Remember, they're reference photos."
Either way it is a good start and i think with another hour or so you could make that into a great portrait.the two guys in my sketchbooks started with referance photos and took about 2 weeks to finish (but they are 3 feet wide when printed)
ok definatly use more of a tonal range. try to go from light peach like the center of the cheek all the way to the darker skin tones. use as many tones as you can. also use more defined colors. dont just burn your shadows in but use color to place them. go in and add freckels. add layers of transparant white/blue/grey to get the eyes more glassy and real. If i didnt have a test tomarrow i would show you with an example.
here is a good general example. http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=107217 i would say you are almost to the blending stage once you add more color and tonal ranges. then you go to blending then off to detail. the differance between the blending and detail stages are huge. you just have to know when enough is enough. each artist has a point where they generally say they are done.

Keep up the practice! I didn't see if anyone suggested but you could benefit a lot from Loomis studies.
I haven't done many studies myself, so don't make the mistakes I did! Start early! =p I'm having to relearn a lot of things I boxed myself in on. Keep it up, hope to see more!

some more anatomy studies will really improve your figure work. Nice job with the digital painting but it could do with a broader range of value. hope that was some help
