So here's my rendition of the Miner's Daughter. I had quite a bit of fun with this one, great topic.

the miners daughter:
raised by a poor miner in a tiny industrial village, over the years she has seen the mine producing less and less coal, and the people of her village getting poorer and more hungry. she had three brothers, all killed in mining accidents.
she has set of into the wider world, to see what other trades are available for a girl who can swing a hammer and wield a wrench with the best of them.

I really am not submitting mine, just really showing it, as it isn't finished at all, and it's more an illustration than a character portrait. This was the image I saw in my head though, when I read the description, and I had to go with it, even though I didn't have the werewithal to finish it.
She's got her Dad's old shirt on
What I would love some feedback on, is HOW do you guys come up with all the cool /stuff/ they wear and have on? That's SUCH a weakness I have, I can't come up with "STUFF". Or the stuff I do come up with is REALLY plain and boring. How do you all do it?

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom the emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause and stand wrapped in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed." ~Albert Einstein

It was a sad night, as they said goodbye to the only family they had. With tears in her eyes, she pretended to be as emotionally strong as she was physically...but the truth was, she wasn't.

After her brothers died in mine-related accidents her father insisted that his daughter stay out of the mines and become a clock-maker like her mother. But even in this small town, clockwork-powered machines are being replaced by coal and steam-powered machines and her family will starve if she obliges her father.
So she hasn't touched a mine in years but she's run off to the nearest mining town, convinced that enough honest labor will bring happiness and prosperity. She's wrong of course.
