    Anglerfish - Mermaid creature

First post in here, I'm just looking for any critique at all since this seems to be the place to get it...

The BG is a bit too distracting. My only gripe really is that the bulb doesn't affect the lighting on HER at all, when normally it would be the ONLY light source. That and you used black to hide so much; don't use black to hide anything. Try to restrict pure black to pupils. Only pupils.

Although I like the fishscale texture it seems like it has been applied in a very flat manor. I would try to utilize that texture but wrap the texture around those round contours...

The piece is way too dark, and you haven't established where the lighting is coming from. The anatomy looks okay from what I can see, but to my eyes it looks as though you are trying a gimmick(the dark) to hide the parts you aren't good at rendering. Not a good idea in this case.

Try some backlighting or something. Water can be luminous, afterall.

I'm drawing a blankin my sketchbook, that is

Ye-ha! I actually completed my site.Check it out

It looks like you are having some fun with photoshop, but underneath the fun colors and textures there are drawing issues that are holding you back – things like anatomy, composition, and value. If you would like some help with these things, follow the link in my sig called “Concept Art 101”.

    Cheers!

I think you are awesome, and I wish you the best in your endeavors, but I am tired of repeating myself, I am very busy with my new baby, and I am no longer a regular participant here, so please do not contact me to ask for advice on your career or education. All of the advice that I have to offer can already be found in the following links. Thank you.
