I think that having the character off-centre in such a long thin picture plane is quite a striking composition; I like it. The second one with the other two soldiers included looks a bit too centred and symmentrical. Maybe in the first illo you could include some additional background detail on the left to balance the composition and fill some dead space - or maybe use that space to put in some typography? If you do decide to include the other two soldiers (who I would quite like to see after seeing their tantalizing silhouettes!) maybe you could group them closer together?

"laws that forbid the carrying of arms . . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes . . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

I like the Mucha piece. Probably what he would draw if he was living in the 21st century.

Now.. really, im going to punish myself for missing this thread for such a long time. 9 pages ... jeez. At first i thought it was Dan Milligan's sketchbook /take this as compliment, it is/. Amazing work, so much confidence in your sketches and brushwork. Definitely subscribed and watching! 5+ / i'm sorry there is no bigger score, damn/
P.S. Thanks for the tutorial.
