    Going through this sketchbook just amazed me on how much you improved and continue to better yourself. Truly doing great works with those PS paintings.
    Most definitely glad you dropped by my sketchbook to say hi.

    hp: Thanks! I get motivated by people here all the time. Glad I can be a motivation to you I limit the time on the studies to an hour apiece, mainly so I don't fall behind on my very crammed school schedule.

    Silvenon: I don't think I'm that good... yet thanks for the kind words though!

    thespianmonsalvo: Thanks! I like the simplicity of that painting, and the colors as well. I'm learning a lot from the subtle color shifts.

    Alm0st: Thanks! You are welcome on the sketchbook visit

    ===================================

    Update:

    A bunch of one-hour or 30-min studies, finished up the master's study, a quickie paint-over for school team game (perspective is completely off... game engine perspective always confuses me), and Marcus + Jenna yet again, likely redesigned for the last time Moving on.

    make sure when you draw glowy cracks to still add shadowy areas. or else it makes it look flat. your chars look amazing! if anything i would maybe change their expressions to look more interesting.

    hp: great advice Thanks! I'll probably mess with the guy's expression more. I don't really know how to draw guys...

    ===

    Four studies from life, started but probably will not finish a Monet study, and a study from movie scene. I'm also modeling my face for a school assignment. Lastly, fixing up the master's project illustration to reflect the new design, as well as trying to make them look more polished.

    Like your recent portraint work. You are really getting involved with your two adventure figures!

    About your head. It looks a bit gamey to me. Like low poly. It needs more flow to the geometry. Look up edge loops online. It's sort of universal modeling concept. I've posted an image in my sketchbook of my first self model head. I followed a tutorial of course! Nonetheless there are mistakes in the geometry. It does take a lot of work, good luck!

    M0RS: thanks for the kind words!

    hp: haha Well, I want Marcus to kind of hide in the shadows, but the entire image might be too dark still. Every time I recaliberate my screen, the image looks different >_<

    cout<mecha: good point. I actually did try to follow edge loop rules. Problem with the head was mainly the porportion - I did not realize how much the camera distorted my face until the day before due date. I did kind of fix it I hope.

    =====

    Today's Update:

    A study from photo (got lazy), finished the Monet study, maybe fixed my face model some, did a DSG, fixed up 2 illustrations, and finished an art crusade piece.

    I have a 1-week break Then it's back to school for 2 more months, praying for a job offer. Our portfolio links will be sent out to the world coming Monday... excited and scared.

    i like that 3d model of yourself, but the hair doesn't look very natural. Can you do something like what they did in Final Fantasy Advent Children, with there hair all swishy? that would be cool ^_^

    Awesome sketchbook Nightblue! Love your characters, their full of life. Great use of color as well. I really like the Sargent studies, I was thinking that I would get into them soon as well as doing studies from other masters. Keep it up. I want to see how you progress.

    i think i would make marcus a little taller or your girl char more in the foreground. he looks kind of short as they are placed now also i think it would be more dramatic if you raised her arms a little.

    Envisor: Thanks! Master studies are awesome because I get to steal techniques... somewhat. I'm constantly surprised by the colors they use and the color I actually see... eyes cheat!

    hp: Thanks! I'll try to make it more "in action" rather than "in preparation for action" later on.

    ===

    Trying to do like ten things at once again :o I got an art test! I hope it goes well.

    A Bouguereau study(WIP).

    Some WIPs and thumbnail sketches for my master's project illustrations - hate the messy purple one... was trying new techniques and brushes, didn't work out anywhere close to what I had in mind, but I don't think I have time to redo it...

    Headhunting entry against DefiledVisions was fun.

    Lame quickie DSG of 30 min glory.

    MY57: Thanks! If you are talking about the study of the Egyptian girl, the original (on the left) is by Sargent and the right one is painted by me, in hope of learning some technique and secrets.

    =====

    semi finished an illustration for my master's project, and I feel pretty happy with it. Hopefully I'll retain some of the tricks I stumbled upon doing this painting.

    hp: thanks! I'll polish it up for sure because I want it in my portfolio. I guess there wasn't trick per-say, but I learned how to paint the middle-tone better, which helped a lot in shaping the forms.

    starting a new unit concept for the team game. Trying very hard to learn to draw the perspective.

    Ship design is good, but it's hard to read form of it in your render (I think it's angle you choose to draw). Maybe the shadow on the ground would help?
    And lightning of thrusters - i think the glow could be more transparent (maybe with some other type of blend, like color dodge or overylay?).
    BTW, it's my opinion, it may be wrong.
    Keep up posting!

    You've really improved so much! I think the last piece with the creature is a huge step forward!! I also like the study of the white dressed woman.
    and it's funny, your Monet study somehow reminds me of Miyazaki. Maybe he borrowed there.
    Nothing much to crit. I just find the last design to be a bit hard to read. On the sketches it looks like the "wings" are supposed to be symmetrical but in the rendered version I can't quite identify if the wing behind the "body" is actually like the other one. Might be intented though? Hope that helps. :s
    Anyway. I wish you the best of luck to find a job. And yay for graduation.

    Hey NB, haven't seen you in a while but I know you are busy! Won't say to much about the colors or technique, however the design needs a little more thought. You have mixed a lot of very interesting elements in this one but the stability or 'stabilizers' of this machine are unconvincing. I know a lot of mech games have real strange movements and control to them but the designs hold it together enough to be somewhat playable. Most giant robot games are just not that fun to play. hehe!

    my only crit is that it looks a bit soft. if it's supposed to be very organic then it's cool but if you want it to look more mechanical you might want to add some harder edges in some areas.

    Mr. Juicy: Thanks! I'm having a bit of trouble resolving the complex shape in space, haha... I'll keep working on it.

    DigtallyDumbfounded: Thanks! I can definitely see the connection now that you mention it. I guess great minds borrow from each other. The wings in the unit designs are tricky. I really need to climb out of my basement and go grab some oil-based clay... and YAY graduation can't wait!

    Cout: Thanks! I'm working on like, a lot of things at once, again. Hopefully once school is over I'll have a chance to focus. The machine is intended to float all the time and only land upon death - it's a flying RTS unit. The stablizer is probably too small for it to really work, but it'll have to do for now I'll try improving upon the design if I decide to put it in my portfolio.

    hp: Thanks! I hate the softness... I'll try using some sharp edges and harsh highlights. I never realized that I'd have trouble rendering round hard-surface objects before doing this, lol.

    ====

    1-hour self portrait and another semi-final concept illustration for my master's project. I'm not happy with it, but for now I feel a bit stuck so I'll move on to other pieces and come back. Suggestions appreciated!
