DJeevan marker sketchbook dump
Hey, i'm a new member but a long time admirer of the incredible talent on this site.
I'm posting some scans from my marker pad that I assembled together. Mostly life drawing, gestures, sketches from trailers, tv, and from imagination done over the past year.
A lot of weak spots within the sketches that i'll attempt to fix or improve by the next post.
Thanks for viewing!

Thank you BigZam!
I'm using any dried out grey marker (20-30% with a really cheap ballpoint pen. I'm actually getting the purple tint from smudging the ink with the dry marker.

Really nice! They all look really chiseled, haha, like stone. I like the two 300 ones where you've used other colours. Was that just because the colours for that movie/graphic novel are so iconic, or because you felt like it?

no specific marker at all...just one that's dried up enough to smudge the ink around =)
Thank you! and the color scheme for the 300 ones were just because the colors were lying around =)...and i'll make an effort to post more of the women from life drawing; they aren't as chiseled =D

Sketchbook update! Nov 6
It's been a while and I've been scanning in some work...although for now, all I have are some really old sketches from life drawing that I never got around to posting...so here they are!
I'll be posting the stuff from this year this week.
Thanks for stopping by. =)

Few more scans, studies from life drawing and skillfull huntsman!!
Life drawing scans from the last two years (these will be the last post of life drawing scans for me - the next ones will purely be conceptual), random sketches, line art and a page of silhouettes. My personal training has been as an observational artist...and I'm quickly discovering the challenge of becoming a creative artist...=)
My solution was to start small - by copying sketches from The Skillfull Huntsman and slowly branching off into my own designs...
With a little more practice, my future updates will be solely conceptual, without references, and more in tune with the creative flow found on these forums...!
thanks for viewing, all comments/crits/advice/suggestions more than welcome! =)

I like the way you address planes in your portraits and figure studies. The Nov.6th post is my favorite of the lot, and the best example of planes, I think.
I don't have much to offer in the way of crit. Your proportions seem fine, and you're doing lots of interesting and dynamic poses. Keep it up!

Another small update, Dec 4th
Senira - Thank you for your comments, glad you liked the pen sketches. =)
And one more small update of environment concepts after watching the feng zhu dvd on shot composition. Used this to do one digital concept that I attached on my digital sketchbook thread:
Thanks for viewing, all crits and comments are more than welcome. =)

Your work is very beautiful!
I can't tell from your sketches, are all of your life drawings 100% ink, or do you ever lay down pencils to guide you?

Very nice sketches. Especially your marker-stuff. Keep on posting, i can´t waint to see more.

Wow wow wow Dhamindra I had to subscribe to both of your threads cause I like what you do (and you're a friend of Daniel ) So may I ask do you paint as profession or just as hobby? And how much you daily invest into painting?

Wow these are amazing. love the ones done with pen and marker, have to try that too. your life drawings are so awesome man, how much time did you spend on them?
also how did you make the reflected light on the bottom an the leg of the girl in this piece (in the middle left)???
I'm totally subscribing to this threat.

UrsusArctos - Thank you for your kind words! Actually, all the stuff is ball-point pen or straight inks, so I just draw light if i ever need guides, but i didn't use pencils for this stuff. =)
Said - Thanks for the encouragement, i'll do my best to keep posting!
Ghoulio - Thanks dude, found your work to be pretty slick too...keep it up - your improvement is amazing!
Xdreamer - Thank you very much! And i do freelance professionally as a matte painter / concept artist...(nowhere as close to Daniel's level, but i'm trying!) and I do sketch daily, but I don't paint as much I would like to. Thank you again. =)
MeTal-Mike - Thanks a lot man, always encouraging to hear that. the pen/marker life study's are all 5-15 min poses, and as for the bounce light on the chick; same method as the other ones, just tried out a friends pen on thick printing paper...colors mudged everywhere but gave a wierd accidental "glow"...i'm basically just smudging the wet ink using an almost dead marker. Thanks for subscribing bro, appreciate it. i'll leave you a comment on your thread asap!
As for a post...I attached some line work from summer 2006...drew these mythological (indian) characters for my sister's wedding. We then painted them over again on large drapes and fixed them on lightboxes...was really cool!
